Protime Predictions – Protime goes to the Beach

| August 31, 2023

Protime has not been to the beach in years.  When he found out they play high school football at the beach in Ocean City, New Jersey he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go, especially when he discovered they were going to play 12 games in 3 days.  PFN’s resident photographer, Sykotyk, happened to be going too so Protime hitched a ride.  Of course, Protime was disappointed that there was no room for his rubber duck pool float, but as it turned out there wasn’t much time to be floating and splashing around in the Atlantic Ocean anyhow.

A big highlight for Protime was meeting the Philadelphia Eagle.  They had a nice chat for a few minutes.  According to Protime, the Philadelphia Eagle appears to be a nice bird.  Protime also got messages on his phone after the IMG-St. Joes Prep game saying that he was on ESPN.  Sadly, they failed to ask Protime who would win, but he did get his mug plastered all over national TV.

Protime batted .800 last week by picking 20 of the 25 games correctly.  Some big games and some tough picks head up this week’s selection of contests.  Here are the Prodigious Prognosticator’s perilous predictions for the week.

Downingtown East 35 State College 31 – Protime decided to go with the Cougars as they have their whole offensive line back and a couple others including RB Ayden Harris, a Kent State commit.  The Little Lions’ cupboard isn’t bare either especially with sophomore sensation RB D’Antae Sheffey returning for more highlight reel runs.  Should be a great one.  State’s stadium should be packed.

Aliquippa 28 Armstrong 17 – The Quips will christen their new Heinz Field stadium with a win, but not before the River Hawks make a game of it.

Mt. Carmel 21 Dunmore 17 – The Red Tornadoes lost a tough one last week, but rebound to nail down the win by beating the state ranked Dunmore Bucks in a slight upset.

Brockway 34 DuBois 28 – The passing game for both teams combined threw for over 630 yards last week.  The Beavers won by one-point last year when they stopped the Brockway Rovers at the one-yard line as time expired.  Look for a similar game this year but with the Rovers coming out on top in front of an overflow crowd at Frank Varischetti Field in Brockway.

Parkland 31 Bethlehem Freedom 21 – Protime has a tough time picking these District 11 Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference games because it’s one of the most competitive conferences in PA.  The Trojans get the nod in this battle holding on against the Patriots.

Cambridge Springs 20 Eisenhower 13 – Eisenhower’s Knights beat Cambridge Springs twice last year in close games.  Protime flipped a coin and he has the Blue Devils turning the tables on Eisenhower in this first of possibly two meetings.

William Penn-York 21 Hempfield 17 – In another close contest, Protime has the Bearcats clawing their way past the Black Knights.

Clearfield 14 Forest Hills 13 – Under first year head coach, Myles Caragein, the Bison come up with a signature win over the improved Forest Hills Rangers.

Perkiomen Valley 27 Downingtown West 24 – Perkiomen Valley begins the year with 3 tough games.  The Vikings beat Chester and this week will edge the Whippets setting up their meeting with Smyrna, DE next week.

Troy 20 Montoursville 14 – The Trojans fight off the Warriors in an epic game to go to 2-0 on the year.

Belle Vernon 35 Laurel Highlands 20 – The defending 3A state champion Leopards get off to a good start by overpowering the Mustangs.

Northeast 26 West Catholic 20 – Down in District 12 this could be a must-see game for fans.  Protime’s crystal ball envisions a Viking win by six over the Burrs of West Catholic.

Nazareth 14 Emmaus 10 – In a defensive struggle between a pair of good teams, it’ll be the Eagles soaring to a narrow victory over the Hornets.

Altoona 17 Taylor-Allderdice 13 – The Mountain Lions earn the win in a tough tussle with the Dragons.

Donegal 21 York Suburban 14 – The Donegal Indians go to 2-0 by sneaking past the Trojans by seven.

Westmont 28 Bellwood-Antis 12 – The Hilltoppers score their first win of the year by knocking off the Blue Devils.

Danville 35 Line Mountain 17 – Picking up where they left off last year, the Ironmen continue to hammer on the competition.  This week Line Mountain’s Eagles are good enough to throw a scare into Danville before they falter.

Mars 28 New Castle 14 – The Fightin’ Planets double up the Red Hurricanes.

Coatesville 31 Academy Park 24 – Great game at Coatesville where the Red Raiders out duel the Knights of Academy Park for the win.

Central Clarion 35 Port Allegany 28 – The 2023 version of this District 9 game will be a super.  Go see it if you live in the area.  Central Clarion won last year 29-24 overcoming an early three score deficit.  Both squads have some talent with the Gators of P.A. returning all of their linemen and Central Clarion’s Wildcats returning most of their 2022 team.

Harrisburg 35 Delaware Valley 14 – Protime says the Cougars is one of the better teams in 6A this year.  This tune up to the Mid Penn League schedule may be a trap game if Harrisburg is not careful.  The Warriors want to prove they belong, but will fall short.

Steel Valley 32 Sto-Rox 18 – Give the Ironmen of Steel Valley their due.  They will be good again this year.  The Viking keep it close but can’t stay with Steel Val.

Windber 40 Curwensville 20 – The Ramblers lost a very good running back in John Shuster, but coach Matt Grohal still has enough talent to topple the Golden Tide.

Selinsgrove 38 Juniata 21 – The Seals are emerging as a good team and will be tough to deal with as the Indians find out.  Look for Juniata to be in the mix come playoff time, but they just happen to run into a very good team this week.

Hickory 35 Franklin 13 – Protime thinks Hickory may be looking past this game and the Franklin Knights are hungry.  In the end, though, the Hornets have enough sting to neutralize the Knights.
