A week or so ago, Protime was making oatmeal on the stove when he spilled sugar on the active burner. It was not pretty sight as the sugar melted into the porcelain stove top. Mrs. P was not a happy camper cleaning up that mess. Later in the day Protime was flailing his arms explaining his gym escapades to the lovely Mrs. P and he knocked over his glass that was full of water. Unlike the Bounty commercials where Bounty cleans the spill before it reaches something important, the water did get to Protime’s cell phone, but luckily no noticeable harm was done.
Later that night, Protime was eating his Frosty Flakes before bed. He noticed they tasted funny. After a couple bites he figured it out the milk was sour. He dumped the milk but salvaged his cereal and poured fresh milk on the Frosty Flakes. They still didn’t taste right, but his stomach survived. Then he stubbed his toe on the bed post getting into bed. That hurt. Mrs. Protime told him better days are ahead. So, with that in mind Protime will put his disastrous 14-11 record last week behind him and start consulting the crystal ball a bit more. Better days are coming soon.
Here are the Savvy Soothsayer’s prestigious picks for the third week of the season:
Chester 2-0 @ Imhotep 2-0 – This will be an electrifying game between two of the best in Pennsylvania. Chester is lead by Jerrell Pamler on defense who has 26 tackles already. The Clipper offense is evenly balanced as it will need to be against a defense like Imhotep’s. On the other side, the Tep Panthers are very well-balanced with QB Joey McLeish and RB Jabree Wallace-Coleman. McLeish has thrown for 523 yards and 6 TDs in two games. Wallace-Coleman is a big time D-1 recruit and had over 100 yards rushing in the first game. Protime’s crystal ball says Imhotep 35 Chester 16.
Beaver 2-0 @ Imani 2-0 – The slobber knocker of the week according to Protime. The Beaver Bobcats defeated #1 Westinghouse a couple weeks ago and look to put away another ranked team this time around. Imani has not been tested yet, but should be in this one. Beaver has at least two D-1 recruits in Amari Jackson, who recently committed to Villanova, and Brady Mayo. Imani counters with two elite athletes in Dayshaun Burnett, who committed to Penn State as a linebacker and David Davis. Protime had to flip a coin and Beaver wins 27-26 even though Protime saw Imani in the first week and was very impressed.
Wilson West Lawn 2-0 @ Nazareth 2-0 – Here’s a game that they may talking about all year. Correll Akings leads the Bulldog offense and Christo Hunsicker the Wilson defense. Nazareth QB Peyton Falzone is heading to Virginia Tech and WR Caleb Newsome to Lafayette. Protime’s crystal ball said go with the home team. So, it’ll be the Nazareth Eagles 31 and the West Lawn Bulldogs 24.
Redbank Valley 2-0 @ Port Allegany 2-0 – Class A football in District 9 has been dominated the past four years by these two teams. Redbank just reloads every year under head coach Blane Gold. These Bulldogs are led by QB Braylon Wagner, a prolific passer, by any means. Wagner has passed the pigskin for 547 yards and 6 TDs to date. Connor Colwell leads the RV ‘D’ in tackles. Port has a solid line and coach Justin Bienkowski has the Gators confident. Aiden Bliss is the man on the Gator offense as he has rushed for 395 yards and 7 scores. Bliss has also picked off 3 passes in two games on defense. The crystal ball says take the visitors in this one. Redbank Valley 32 Port Allegany 26.
West Chester Rustin 2-0 @ Pope John Paul II 2-0 – Protime loves this matchup between, not only two of the very best in PA, but the mascots. West Chester Rustin has a Golden Knight while Pope John Paul has a Golden Panther. Rustin is led by RB Chase Hatton who has scored 5 touchdowns in his two games. Pope John Paul is led by a very efficient quarterback in Luke Terlesky who has completed 17 of 21 passes this year. Protime’s pick is Rustin by a score of 17-14.
The Others:
Wilmington 21 Northern Bedford 7 – Good inter-district game finds the Greyhounds of Wilmington running past the NBC Panthers.
Southern Columbia 34 Milton 14 – Jim Roth notches his 501st career win as the Tigers power past the Black Panthers.
Ft. LeBoeuf 22 Corry 14 – These two teams may be better than advertised and this should be a good one with the Bison charging by the Corry Beavers.
Williams Valley 20 Nativity BVM 16 – This will be close and the Vikings take it by four points over Nativity’s Green Wave.
Norwin Knights 24 Greater Latrobe 21 – District 7 is the scene of this 3-point differential when the Knights of Norwin boot a field goal to win and down the Greater Latrobe Wildcats.
Ridley 35 Strath Haven 31 – A dilly down in the burbs of Philly will find the Green Raiders victorious in beating the Panthers of Haven.
Cambria Heights 13 Marion Center 7 – The Highlanders avoid being stung by the Marion Center Stingers in eking out the win.
Troy 34 South Williamsport 21 – Could be a let down for Troy after their big win in Delaware last week, but the Trojans are up to the task of defeating the Mountaineers.
Central Clarion 42 Brookville 22 – The Wildcats continue to mow ‘em down. This week Clarion whips the Blue Raiders.
Mid Valley 26 Old Forge 20 – In a pretty entertaining battle the Spartans take down the Old Forge Blue Devils.
Bishop Guilfoyle 24 Bellefonte 17 – Bellefonte is turning heads up in District 6 with their 2-0 start. Guilfoyle will need to play mistake free ball and an aggressive ‘D’ which the Marauders will do in getting past the Red Raiders.
Bethlehem Liberty 28 Stroudsburg 27 – Protime consulted his crystal ball which said the Hurricanes blow by the Mountaineers, but Protime knows better than that. In this game the Hurricanes barely breeze by the ‘Eers.
Clairton 18 Shady Side Academy 14 – Da Bears are back and will be a legit challenger to make the state Class A title game. The SSA Bulldogs are the next victim in a closer game than anticipated.
Danville 38 Montoursville 28 – The Ironmen are a determined bunch this year. They are a 10-point favorite in Protime’s book over the Warriors.
Berlin 21 Everett 20 – Everett has upped their game this year so far. It’s going to be close but this prognosticator is leaning toward the Mountaineers to sneak by the Warriors.
New Oxford 38 Southwestern 35 – In a track meet the Colonials are better than the Mustangs this time, but only by a nose.
Upper St. Clair 28 Franklin Regional 23 – There will be a lot of Panther fans at this game. Half will go home happy and the other half sad. The USC Panthers will be severely tested by the Franklin Regional Panthers but will come away victorious.
Bethlehem Freedom 30 Allentown Central Catholic 21 – The Patriots will let freedom ring as they give the Vikings of ACC their second straight loss.
Morrisville 18 Pequea Valley 13 – Protime had to flip a coin here. The Bulldogs have a really good RB in Raymond Holman, but the Braves of PV have a good team. In the end, Holman will be the difference.
