Protime has been in the prognostication business for 55 years and has seen more predicters come and go than grains of sand in an hour glass. Major Hoople, Pigskin Predicts, and those old-time newspaper sports editors, etc. have all saddled up the horse and rode off into the sunset. Protime used to do college and NFL games also, but retired from that scene a few years ago. Currently, The Born Power Index, CalPreps, and others usually have to take a back seat to Protime. Yes, there are still some newspapers that predict around Pennsylvania and in Georgia (Protime’s other fav FB state), but none are in the running by year end.
Protime is about to let you all in on a secret. How does he do it? He looks at records, he looks at box scores, he looks at stats if available, he glances at prior year records and prior year scores, and his intuition – yes his gut sometimes is the best reliable source. If all else fails, he turns to his crystal ball or flips a coin. Protime has been beaten occasionally, but not often. He is human after all. There are no guarantees no matter how much effort is put into predicting.
Protime slipped a bit last week and his batting average for the year is a respectable .778, falling from .786 the week before. Here are Protime’s amazing auguries for the final week of the regular season.
Bishop Guilfoyle 9-0 @ Penn Cambria 9-0 – This is the LHAC championship game and it should be a dandy. BG is ranked number one in class 1A by PFN and Penn Cambria is number eight in 3A. Guilfoyle’s quarterback, Chase Kissell, is now the all-time leading passer in Marauder football history. This year he’s thrown for 2,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Hamilton Gates is his main receiver. Gates has grabbed 48 passes for 968 yards and 12 scores. Gates has also scored 10 rushing TDs. The Marauder defense has accumulated 25 QB sacks and intercepted the opposition 16 times. Taurean Consiglio leads that defense in tackles.
The Panthers are led by quarterback Brady Jones, who’s passed for 10 touchdowns. He has also rushed for a half dozen more. Gavin Harrold is Penn Cambria’s answer to Hamilton Gates. He has caught 42 passes for 607 yards and 7 TDs. Harrold has run for a dozen more touchdowns. Corbin Vinglish heads up a strong Panther defense that has 24 QB sacks and 10 interceptions.
Protime’s crystal ball has the game, Bishop Guilfoyle 29 Penn Cambria 28.
Riverside 9-0 @ Lackawanna Trail 8-1 – All eyes in D2 will be on this grand contest. The Taylor Riverside Vikings are number three in class 2A. Quarterback Chase Teddonio can do it all as he’s passed for 1,586 yards and 22 TDs, plus he is the leading Viking rusher with 436 yards and 7 touchdowns. WR Richie Kostaff has hauled down 38 passes for 600 yards and 9 scores. Kicker Santino D’Amico could be the difference maker in this one.
Lackawanna Trail is not a passing team. They prefer ball control with time consuming drives. PFN’s number six 1A team has a very good run game. RB Isaac Ryon has over 1,000 yards carrying the rock and has scored 18 touchdowns. His stable mate, Demitrius Douglas adds another 10 TDs. Max Kimmel leads the Lion defense with a trio of interceptions.
Maybe a slight upset, Protime sees Lackawanna Trail beating Riverside 28-17.
Bethel Park 8-1 @ Peters Township 8-1 – OoooWeee, this is going to be all that it’s billed up to be and more. If you live in Pittsburgh, head out to McMurray and take in this great game. You will not be disappointed as these are two of the best 5A teams in Pennsylvania.
The Black Hawks of Bethel Park have the #1 passer in all of D7 in the person of Tanner Pfeuffer. Young Mr. Pfeuffer has pitched the pigskin for 2,059 yards and 27 touchdowns. The main recipient of his passes is Mitchell Paschi who has 590 yards in pass receptions and 12 TDs scored. RB JaVaughn Moore is 4th in the WPIAL in rushing with 1,477 yards and 22 total touchdowns.
The Indians have a pretty good QB themselves in Nolan DiLucia. He has tossed the agate for 1,960 yards and 17 TDs. Nick McCullough is his top target with 772 receiving yards and 11 total scores. RB Nick Courie has scored an even dozen touchdowns and kicker Anthony Maiello is a difference maker.
A coin flip has Peters Township 31 Bethel Park 24.
Wilson West Lawn 8-1 @ Manheim Township 9-0 – Big game in D3 will decide major 6A seedings for the playoffs. Wilson’s Bulldogs have a dual threat QB in Madyx Gruber. He has passed for 1,374 yards and 18 TDs, but he has scrambled for another 504 yards and 6 touchdowns. Correll Akins is the top rusher with 800 yards and 8 scores. Ethan Brownback leads the Bulldog ‘D’ in tackles and TFLs.
The Blue Streaks hope to keep the unbeaten season alive. QB Carson Weisser has thrown for 1,572 yards with 22 TD tosses. RB Declan Clancy can be the key to this game. Clancy has rushed for 1,472 yards and 17 touchdowns. Kicker John Morales is a perfect 46 of 46 in extra points. Clancy and Marcos Fernandez are the leading Blue Streak tacklers.
Manheim Township 28 Wilson West Lawn 26 in a squeaker.
