Protime’s District 9 Notes

There are six unbeaten teams left in D-9.  They are Clearfield, Karns City, Ridgway, Smethport, Keystone, and Brookville.  There are also six teams without a win in the 2021 season to date.  There appears to be no ‘big’ games on tap this week so the teams without a loss should remain unblemished, except Karns City does play their rival Moniteau and as we all know anything can happen in a rivalry game.

Karns City coach, Joe Sherwin, and players Luke Garing (#20) and Josh Griffiths (#77).

Quarterbacks continue to dominate the statistical department in D-9 and around the state.  Last week’s top performer at QB was Smethport’s Noah Lent who accounted for 362 total yards (208 passing and 154 rushing) and 5 touchdowns (3 passing and 2 running).  Other notable quarterbacks were Gavin Ayers (Coudersport) 5 scores and 146 yards all rushing the ball, Charlie Krug (Brookville) with 164 yards throwing and 3 TDs, Jonathan Hinton (Ridgway) 3 TDs passing, Gavin Jimerson (Otto-Eldred) a touchdown passing and 3 TDs rushing, Drew Evens (Port Allegany) 205 yards and 2 TDs passing, Christian Coudriet (St. Marys) 243 yards and a touchdown, Dan McGarry (Curwensville) 213 yards and a score, Oliver Billotte (Clearfield) had 3 rushing TDs and threw for over 100 yards, Bret Wingard (Keystone) threw for 2 TDs and had over 140 yards, and Bryson Bain (Redbank Valley) had almost 200 yards passing and a TD toss.

Wide receiver Ty Terry of Curwensville caught 7 passes for 122 yards.  Running backs qualifying for mention are Dylan Kelly (Coudersport) 109 yards and 2 scores, Thad Butler (Curwensville) 131 yards and 3 TDs, Mark McGonigal (Clearfield) 168 yards and 2 touchdowns, Luke Garing (Karns City) 132 yards and a score, Ray Schreckengost (Redbank Valley) 112 yards and 3 TDs, and Dom Allegretto (Ridgway) had 100 yards on only 4 carries scoring once.

Brandon Ross of Redbank returned a punt for a touchdown, which is not unusual.  But returning it only 5 yards is.  He caught a backwards punt out of the air at the five and waltzed into the end zone for the TD.  Two teams picked off six passes last week, they were Brookville and Otto-Eldred.  Manning Splain and Gavin Jimerson of O-E had three apiece and Brookville’s Brayden Kunselman notched three also.

Top Five D-9 Teams (no change from last week):

  1. Clearfield 3-0
  2. Karns City 3-0
  3. Ridgway 3-0
  4. St. Marys 2-1
  5. Smethport 3-0

HM: Brookville 3-0, Keystone 3-0, Redbank Valley 2-1, Kane 2-1, Curwensville 2-1
