Protime’s District Nine Notes

Protime didn’t pull the trigger last week and pick DuBois to upend Ridgway but he did warn everyone that it might happen.  And it did as the DuBois ‘D’ dominated the Elker offense that came in averaging 41 points per game.  The final was 21-6 with Ridgway garnering a total of 136 yards.

The other big game was a big dud as Karns City, now 5-0, outdistanced Brookville, now 4-1, by 34 points and proved Protime correct in his prediction and rankings.

Two other games to note was the Redbank Valley-Brockway contest and the Union/AC Valley-Elk County Catholic affair.  RBV and Brockway were scoreless through the first quarter and a half.  Then RBV unleashed the dogs and scored 36 points in just over 5 minutes to invoke the mercy rule after halftime.  In the Union/AC Valley-ECC game, Union jumped out to a 41-0 lead at the break, then ECC never came out of the locker room for the second half.  Apparently, the Crusaders had 3 players injured which left only 12 healthy guys to play the last two quarters.  For safety reasons the second half was cancelled.

The quarterback roll call includes Noah Lent of Smethport (436 total yards accounted for with 3 TD passes and 5 more TDs running the ball), Elijah Fitton of Bradford (310 yards passing-4 TDs and another TD running), Jayce Ferguson of Central Clarion (241 yards-4 TDs), Dan McGarry of Curwensville (319 yards-3 TDs), Bryson Bain of RBV (134 yards-3 TDs), Maddix Baughman (145 yards-1 TD plus another 89 rushing yards), Oliver Billotte (Clearfield) had 177 yards and 3 TD tosses, Christian Coudriet (St. Marys) threw for 230 yards a couple of TDs, and Drew Evens of Coudersport threw for 160 yards.

The running backs made somewhat of a comeback this past week.  Leading the way was Blaine Moses with his 371-yard, 6 touchdown performance against Coudersport.  Kyle Nellis had 203 yards rushing for Keystone, Lathan Reed of Cameron County had 232 yards running and 2 scores plus he caught 3 passes for 126 yards and another TD, Luke Garing of Karns City ran for over 100 yards and 3 TDs, Moniteau’s Matt Martino rushed for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns while teammate Hunter Stalker went for 189 yards and a TD, Ryan Love of Otto-Eldred scored 3 TDs one on a 68-yard run, one on a 45-yard fumble return, and one on a 62-yard kickoff return.  Mikey Card of Union/AC Valley rushed for 109 yards.

Wide receivers Jake Mullins and Ty Terry (Curwensville) each had over 100 yards receiving and a TD, Bradford’s Dalton Dixon caught 7 passes for 177 yards and 2 scores, Karson Kline of Clearfield grabbed 6 passes for 140 yards and 3 scores, and Logan Mosier of St. Marys snared 3 passes for 125 yards and a score.  Mosier also had an 82-yard pick 6 and an 85-yard kickoff return.

Only four D-9 teams remain undefeated.  They all are in the top 5 (see below).  There are two intriguing match-ups this week.  The first one features #3 St. Marys traveling to #2 Karns City.  The Flying Dutchmen have a hiccup on their record when they lost to Ridgway the opening week.  The Gremlins are coming off that big win with Brookville to remain unbeaten this year.  Then there’s the rematch of the D-9 single A playoff game from last year.  The Bulldogs of Redbank Valley (4-1) make the trek up to Smethport (5-0) to play the Hubbers.  RBV won that hard fought playoff game by the score of 20-6.  Watch for Protime’s Predictions to come out tomorrow to find out who is going to win those two games.

Top Five D-9 Teams after five weeks:

  1. Clearfield 5-0
  2. Karns City 5-0
  3. St. Marys 4-1
  4. Smethport 5-0
  5. Keystone 4-0

HM: Brookville 4-1, Redbank Valley 4-1, Ridgway 4-1, Union/AC Valley 3-1
