The monster game of the week between unbeaten Karns City and once beaten St. Marys did not disappoint.  The Gremlins’ Luke Garing scored on a short run to put Karns City on top 28-27 with less than four minutes left in the game.  But player of the game and of the week, Christian Coudriet threw his 5th touchdown pass of the night with 40 ticks left on the clock to give the Flying Dutchmen the hard-fought victory.  Coudriet pitched the pigskin for 401 yards, spreading the wealth mainly among 3 receivers.  Charlie Coudriet had 113 receiving yards, Carter Chadsey had 109 and 2 touchdowns including the game-winner, and Logan Mosier accounted for 107 yards and a couple of scores.

In the other much anticipated match-up, RBV knocked Smethport from the ranks of the undefeated with a 27-6 triumph.  The Bulldogs only led 8-6 at halftime but put together a solid second half.  Their only score in the first half was on a 74-yard punt return by Ashton Kahle.  Ray Shreckengost rushed for 116 yards and 2 TDs with most of that yardage coming in half two when Blane Gold had his team ground and pound the ball.

The top running back/tail back performance last week was Dawson ‘Happy’ Camper’s 225 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Dawson plays for Union/AC Valley.  Other notable numbers from backs include Ridgway’s Dom Allegretto 144 yards and 3 TDs plus a punt return TD too, Cameron County’s Lathan Reed with 135 yards and a score, Elk County Catholic’s Noah Cherry 137 yards and 1 touchdown, Coudersport’s Gavin Ayers who had 114 yards and 3 TDs, and finally Clearfield’s Mark McGonigal with 151 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Quarterbacks to note were Brockway’s Brayden Fox with 335 yards and 3 TD passes, Brookville’s Charlie Krug with 189 yards and 4 TD tosses, Keystone’s Bret Wingard threw for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns plus he ran for 74 more yards and another score, Central Clarion’s Jase Ferguson had 241 yards passing and a couple of TD passes plus another TD running, Eric Booher of Karns City threw for 139 yards and a score plus he had a rushing TD, Moniteau’s Dave Dessicino passed and ran for over 100 yards each, and Kane’s Harley Morris passed for over 100 yards and a score plus ran for almost 100 more.

Noteworthy wide receivers were Blake Pisarcik (147 yards, 1 TD) and Alex Carlson (103 yards, 1 TD) both of Brockway, Micah Rupp of Karns City (112 yards, 1 TD), Christian Simko of Central Clarion (160 yards, 2 TDs), and Tyler Albright of Keystone (109 yards, 2 TDs).

One of the big games this week finds Brookville (5-1) at St. Marys (5-1).  Protime is going to predict lots of passing in this one.  The other big game will be Union/AC Valley (4-1) visiting Keystone (5-0).  Protime is going to add the Trinity from District 7 at Clearfield Bison contest.  Don’t let Trinity’s 2-4 record fool anyone.  Their losses were to Thomas Jefferson, McKeesport, Canon-McMillan, and West Allegheny all of whom have winning records.

Top Five D-9 Teams after six weeks:

  1. Clearfield 6-0
  2. St. Marys 5-1
  3. Karns City 5-1
  4. Keystone 5-0
  5. Redbank Valley 5-1

HM: Brookville 5-1, Ridgway 5-1, Smethport 5-1, Union/AC Valley 4-1
