Quincy Swaim and the Bison defense took Bedford to the next round with a 24-15 victory over the Steelton-Highspire Steamrollers. Bedford will move on and take on the District 4 champions in the Troy Trojans.

After a scoreless first quarter, Bedford got an interception from Chase Bauman and Swaim led the Bison down for a touchdown. He ran it in from two yards out to give Bedford a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

Steelton-Highspire got the ball back inside their own ten yard line and Bedford forced them to a fourth and third. The Steamrollers went for it and the Bison stopped them, getting the ball at the 15 yard line. Steelton also forced a fourth down and Owen Horne drilled a 32 yard field goal.

Bedford then kicked a low line drive on the kickoff and it hit off a Steamroller and into the hands of a Bison with less than a minute remaining in the half. Swaim rolled around making multiple defenders miss before hitting freshman Gabriel Taylor for a big 44 yard gain. A play later, Swaim ran it in from four yards out and Bedford entered halftime with a 17-0 lead.

Bedford got the kickoff to open the second half and after having the ball for six minutes, Steelton-Highspire forced a fumble. Yahmir Ceasar followed with a 32 yard bomb to Nazier Fuller to get on the board and cut Bedfords lead down to 10.

A couple of back and forth drives led to Swaim running it in from 35 yards out to put Bedford up 24-7. The next drive for the Steamrollers, Swaim intercepted the pass, but the Bison would give it right back with a fumble. Then once again Steelton-Highspire threw another interception to Bauman, his second of the night.

Ceasar ran it in from six yards out and James Evans ran it in for the two point conversion, but that ended the game with a final score of 24-15.

Swaim finished the night with 159 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, 92 passing yards, and an interception on defense. He flew around the field to make a lot of key tackles as well.

“Those kids have bought in,” Bedford Coach Kevin Steele stated. “They believe in us, eachother, themselves, and the coaching staff. We’re all pulling the rope in the same direction. It’s a pretty special thing. It’s been pretty special these last couple weeks. I’m just super excited to go back to practice Monday, that’s a special group to be around.”
