Heritage Conference Game of the Week
Marion Center Stingers (5-2) at River Valley Panthers (6-1)
Last Meeting 9/29/23 RV 40 @ MC 16
MC PF20.4 PA 8.9
RV PF38.3 PA 11.6
This was probably the best game I have seen this year. Both teams played well and the game could have went either way. This was a huge victory for the Panthers on Senior Night. It was a crushing defeat for the Stingers who fell seven yards short.
The first quarter started with a bang as the Stingers Troy Slovinsky took the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown.

Both teams punted on their first possessions. River Valley drove 95 yards in six minutes on their second possession. Senior Sam Yantis got the bulk of the yards as the Panthers opened up some large holes in the Stingers defense. They converted a fourth and three from the 47. Senior Gavin Burkhart capped the drive with a 19 yard touchdown run. The score was tied as we went to the second. MC 7 RV 7

The second quarter started with the Stingers driving. They were forced to punt after moving into Panther territory. Jake Woodring had a big punt return to flop field position. Panther quarterback Max Perschetti was sacked and they were forced to punt. Marion Center was able to move the ball to midfield before being pushed back and forced to punt. Senior Sammy “Big Cat” Ewing came free off the right side and blocked the punt. Everyone seemed to just look at the ball except Ewing who came back and picked up the ball and out ran Troy Slovinsky for a touchdown.

Marion Center would come right back. They would go 62 yards in three minutes. Quarterback Camden Rising scored from two yards out. River Valley would than take the ball and drive to the Stingers 23 before turning the ball over on downs with just eight seconds to go. We went to the half tied. MC 14 RV 14

The third quarter started with the Panthers going right down the field and scoring in less than three minutes with Burkhart getting his second touchdown. He broke a couple of tackles and raced down the left sideline.
Marion Center gave the ball right back to the Panthers when Woodring intercepted a Rising pass at the Stingers 40. But Marion Centers defense rose to the occasion and allowed only four yards on four plays. The Stingers picked up one first down before facing a third and long. Rising dropped back and threw along pass that hit Troy Slovinsky in stride for a fifty yard touchdown. The Panthers would then go on a long drive using up the rest of the quarter. MC 21 RV 21

The Stingers would use four minutes to drive the ball to the River Valley 20. They were stopped short on fourth and three. The Panthers had the ball at their own 20 with a seven point lead and only seven and a half minutes to go. River Valley would move the ball inside the Stingers 30 before turning it over on downs. Marion Center had the ball at their own 27 with 2:04 to go and no timeouts. The Stingers would drive to the Panthers six before spiking the ball to stop the clock. Sam Ewing stopped Noah McCoy at the six. McCoy was huge on the drive making catch after catch. They had three shots from the six before turning the ball over with five seconds remaining. One kneel down later and the game was over. MC 21 RV 28
