A big Heritage Conference matchup tonight between 4-1 River Valley and 3-2 United Valley. The two teams sit within the top five of the conference, battling for the best possible seeding in a very competitive 2A division in District 6. These two teams have been very solid this season and the clash of the two is expected to be a great game.
River Valley has done well against all of their opponents, aside from Cambria Heights, the squad tied with them for second place in the conference at 4-1. Their flex-bone offense has been great with their great runners in Jake Woodring, Brody Hutter, Max Persichetti, and Hunter Adair. An equal distribution of the ball in the offense has these four carrying the load through the first five weeks. That has been working well recently and looks to be on the uphill.
“We are getting better each week and seem to be peaking at a key stretch of the season,” River Valley Head Coach Ed Dalton stated. “They have really good skilled players they’re aggressive they have decent size. I think they have everything good kicking game so we definitely know it’ll be quite a game.”
United Valley on the other hand has had quite the strong defense this season and in a comparable game with Cambria Heights, they lost by just a touchdown, where River Valley lost 35-7. Their other loss to Homer-Center was by just eight points as well. They are just a few mistakes away from being 5-0 this season, so they are clearly much better than their record indicates.
“Internally we believe if it weren’t for a couple mental mistakes the first two weeks of the season we would be 5-0 right now but you can’t dwell on the past,” United-Valley Head Coach Lou Mcelwee replied. “So in order to come out successful this Friday against River Valley we must win the line of scrimmage and win all 3 phases of the game. Also our players must be prepared for a wet football and bad field conditions.”
It should definitely work out to become a great Heritage Conference game that will definitely shake up the standings and seeding for the 2A D6 playoffs.
