Rising senior edge LB Jaasai Simmons Thursday afternoon officially gave his verbal commit to Division 1 program Marshall University. Jaasai in his junior season at Roman last season turned heads earning All Catholic League honors after posting 45 tackles and 6.5 sacks helping Roman to the CL 5A title and they came up just short of winning the 5A Districtc 12 title.
At 6-2 225lbs Marshall may keep him as a DE or move him to OLB as he has the athleticism and speed to play either position. Before choosing Marshall he also had offers from Howard, Maine, Monmouth and Akron.
Jaasai stated that he choose Marshall because “it felt like home and is a place I can play elite football”. He will head to Marshall next summer undecided on a major. A former North Philly resident who relocated to the Northeast section of Philadelphia Jaasia has set personal and team goals for the 2024 season. He stated “my main goal is to obtain the Roman school record for sacks while our team goal is to prove the naysayers wrong and win states”.
Lastly Jaasai wanted to give praise and thanks “to the whole Roman coaching staff as without them I wouldn’t be the man I am today. Also huge thanks to Jameial Lyons (Penn State), Jason Patterson (Duquesne) and Jordan Montgomery (Temple) all former Roman players who pushed me every day until I wanted to be great”.
