Roman Catholic dominates both sides of the ball and both halves

Roman Catholic made a statement last night, that they are going for a state title, and if you get in their way, this is what could happen to you. You get totally dominated on both offense and defense, the Cahillites scored early and often on offense, their defense shutout Whitehall in the 1st half and only gave up a touchdown late in the game on their way to a 49-7 victory over the Zephyrs.

Like I said Roman scored early and often.  On the 1st play from scrimmage SR QB Semaj Beals threw to SR WR Eyan Stead for 68yds and a score, and only 26 seconds off the clock Roman Catholic led 7-0

After a nice return by Justin Hussett, Whitehall started 1st and ten from their own 37yd line. And what did you expect, Dogmanits to Dogmanits for 28yds to the 35yd line of Roman. Whitehall had 1st and ten in Roman territory, but unable to convert on 4th and 2, turned the ball over on downs and the Cahillites started 1st and ten from their own 26yd line. We already know Roman can score by air, then the ground game started with JR RB Hanif Sheed taking the carries 13yds, 25yds and on 1st and goal from the 1yd line, Beals handed off to SR RB Rogzel Sutton for the score at 7:59 in the 1st quarter Roman led 14-0.

Whitehall started with great field position at their own 41yd line, they did get a 1st down when Tanner Dogmanits ran to the 36yd line of Roman Catholic. But that’s as far as they got, and again turned the ball over on downs to Roman Catholic. The Cahillites started on their own 28yd line 1st and ten, and did not waste any time going back to pounding the rock with Hanif Sheed. He ran 1st for 19yds to Roman’s 47yd line, then on the next play he ran to the 1yd line. And why not let him finish the drive, so Beals hands off to Sheed again for the score and at 3:52 in the 1st quarter the Cahillites led 21-0.

The game was not going as planned for the Zephyrs and they needed to put points on the board and it looked like they might. Tanner connected with his brother Talon Dogmanits on 2nd and seven from their own 24yd line for 18yds to the 42yd line, but Whitehall never made into Roman Catholic territory and again turned the ball over on downs to the Cahillites. On 2nd and ten from Whitehall’s 48yd line Semaj Beals threw to Rogzel Sutton for 30yds to the 22yd line, next he connected with Ash Roberts to the 5yd line and finished off the drive and for the 2nd time, threw to Eyan Stead for the score with 18 seconds left in the 1st quarter. Roman stretches lead to 28-0.

Whitehall got what they needed a good return by Talon Dogmanits to their own 47yd line. The Zephyrs even made to the 35yd line, but that is as far as they got, Roman’s defense had the Zephyrs number all night and again got a turnover on downs. Roman banged out three 1st downs in a row, including a Semaj Beals pass to Chris Cook from their own 47yd line 33yds to the 2oyd line of Whitehall. Beals came up big again when he found Ash Roberts open for a 24yd gain to the 5yd line. And on 3rd and goal, yep Beals to Stead again and at 7:35 in the 2nd it was 35-0 Roman Catholic.

Rinse and repeat, Whitehall again turned the ball over downs, they were the victim of a no call pass interference, but in the end it really did not matter. Like I said early and often, starting at Whitehall’s 47yd line and on 2nd and four Semaj Beals threw to Chris Cook for 40yds to the 1yd line. Then right back to his favorite target of the night Eyan Stead and at 4:24 in the 2nd quarter Roman led 42-0.

That would be the score at the half 42-0 Roman Catholic having their way with Whitehall.

If the Zephyrs have any chance of getting back in this game, they had to take the 2nd half kick and down the field and score. That did not happen and after a 60yd punt by Cole Richards, The Cahillites started at their own 16yd line and backup SO QB Jahmil Hawkins engineered a 84yd drive, ending with a 53yd touchdown pass to SO WR Shane Hubert at 6:21 in the 3rd for Romans last score of the night and they led 49-0.

Whitehall was finally able to put one on the board, Tanner and Talon Dogmanits showed why they are one of the best pass combinations and scored for the Zephyrs at 11:57 in the 4th quarter and that made it 49-7.

FINAL SCORE 49-7

Too little to late for Whitehall and their season comes to an end, and Roman Catholic moves on the next round to face 13-0 Hollidaysburg fresh off their victory over Del Val 56-42 and ranked #7 in the state.

John Fox and I caught with the soft spoken Eyan Stead who had a great night on offense and defense and let his performance speak volumes, who Coach Prete called the best player in the state.

We also got to talk to Semaj Beals, he threw 4 for four touchdowns and led his team to a 42-0 1st half lead before turning over the reigns to Jahmil Hawkins for the 2nd half.

And last but not least Coach Prete on his team’s performance and preparing for the next round
