
Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes Tame Mahanoy Area Golden Bears

The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes defeated the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears with a final score of 59-8. Niko Carestia led the Hurricanes with five touchdowns. Brian Gallagher had the lone touchdown for the Bears.
The Hurricanes wasted no time, Niko Castillo scoring on the opening drive and completing the two-point conversion. Niko Carestia followed up on the next play with a score and two-point conversion of his own. Mahanoy quarterback Levi Terry did make a pass connection with Michael Oblas, but the drive was stopped by the Hurricanes. Wyatt Keefer recovered a Bears fumble, allowing Colton Reber to break free for a 15-yard touchdown to end the quarter. Schuylkill Haven led 24-0.
Carestia dominated the second quarter, scoring from 32 yards out, running 42 yards to the end zone, and finishing the quarter with a 21-yard touchdown. The Hurricanes were 5/6 in two-point conversion attempts on the night. Chase Williams led the defensive end with multiple tackles for loss. Chase Leibensberger also contributed from the linebacker position. The Hurricanes took a huge lead, 46-0.
Carestia wrapped up his scoring with his longest run of the night, 71 yards to the endzone. Hunter Correll completed the extra point. Colton Reber also added to the score with a 51-yard touchdown. The lead extended to 59-0. Mahanoy’s Brian Gallagher reached the end zone and Kyler Quick completed the two-point conversion to make the final score of this matchup, 59-8.
Coach Mike Farr and his Hurricanes with face the Minersville Battlin’ Miners on Thursday, while Coach David Holman and his Golden Bears with face the Marian Colts.
