What to Know About The Game

Scranton Prep is no stranger to this stage, considering they’ve made it to the state bracket each of the last five seasons. This year was a much slower start than years prior for the Cavaliers however, as they began the year 0-3 which was by far their worst start to a season since 2010 when they started 1-4 and ended up finishing 3-7. It seems like Scranton Prep may be getting hot at the right time however, as they’ve gone 7-2 since starting 0-3, including a 51-19 victory over a 4A powerhouse in Jersey Shore, and their two most recent victories which were on the road against 9-2 Wyoming Area and 11-1 Berwick, both of which were won in dominant fashion. Thanks to their strong rushing attack led by quarterback Will McPartland, who has rushed for an absurd 23 touchdowns this season, the Cavaliers bullied their way back into the state playoffs by bringing home their fifth straight District 2 championship. On the flip side, Mifflinburg is entering a place they have never seen before, as last week was Mifflinburg’s first ever District 4 championship which means they are heading to the state bracket for the first time in school history. A year ago, the Wildcats began their season 0-5 before winning four out of their last five games to finish off the season. This year was much different for Mifflinburg, as they are sitting at 10-2 right now with their only losses coming at the hands of a 5A powerhouse in Hollidaysburg on the road, and a one score loss at home to Southern Columbia. Other than those two games, the Wildcats have dominated every team they’ve played this season, mostly thanks to their high powered offense led by senior quarterback Chad Martin, who leads all of District 4 in passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Final Thoughts

Looking at years past, District 4 teams haven’t had much success when it comes to facing District 2 teams in the state bracket. With that said, most people would consider Scranton Prep the favorite in this matchup, especially when you consider what the Cavaliers have done in the playoffs in the last decade or so. If that’s the case, I am personally picking the upset in this game, as I will take Mifflinburg to edge out Scranton Prep in what I believe should be a relatively high scoring affair.

My Prediction

Scranton Prep – 27

Mifflinburg – 28
