Scranton Prep wins District 2 3A Championship in Convincing Fashion

Scranton Prep head coach Terry Gallagher said when Will McPartland was a sophomore that he will be one the best players that has played at Scranton Prep. McPartland had six total touchdowns as the Cavaliers took the District 2 3A Championship with a 42-7 victory at Berwick. “I’m proud of the kids. We went through adversity this year. I give credit to the senior class. They stuck together and didn’t pack it in. They got back to work and we’re fortunate to have kids like that in our program.” Said Gallagher.

Scranton Prep started with the ball and went five plays as Will McPartland scored from seven yards out for a 7-0 lead with 9:26 remaining in the first quarter. Highlighted by a Braedon McPartland 38 yard run to the Berwick 15 yard line. The Bulldogs on their opening drive were able to get one first down but were forced to punt.

The Cavaliers got a big play as Will McPartland went to Noah Krzywiec for a 67 yard gain to the Berwick three yard line. On the next lay, Will McPartland scored from three yards out for a 14-0 Scranton Prep lead with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter.

Berwick were forced to punt and the punt was blocked and returned at the Bulldog 20 yard line and Will McPartland found Braedon McPartland from 20 yards out for a 21-0 Cavaliers lead with 1:01 remaining in the first quarter.

The Berwick drive ended with an AJ Croom interception then Will McPartland scored his third rushing touchdown of the night and fourth total touchdown from one yard out and it was 28-0 with 10:47 to go in the second quarter..

Just before the halftime buzzer, Will McPartland found Mackey Lynett from 47 yards out to make it 35-0 at halftime. The mercy rule was in effect during the second half. Will McPartland scored from a yard out to make it 42-0 with 5:50 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs got on the board as Ty’mere Wilkerson scored from 10 yards out to make it 42-7 with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter.

Scranton Prep cruised through the fourth quarter to take a 42-7 victory to take another District 2 3A Crown, their fifth straight District 2 Championship. The Cavaliers will play District 4 Champion Mifflinburg next Friday in the first round of the PIAA 3A State Playoffs. Berwick ends their season at 11-1.
