Behind quarterback Wyatt Brosious, Bloomsburg outduels Warrior Run Friday night

TURBOTVILLE-Big-time players usually step-up in the spotlight moments of a marquise gridiron contest between two solid high school football teams such was evident Friday night at Defender Stadium as Wyatt Brosious stepped up by throwing for over 300 yards and rushing for nearly 100 more in a 42-28 win over Warrior Run in a key Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference III battle of undefeated teams before a packed house.

The Panthers broke open what was a tied game at twenty-one at intermission by outscoring the Defenders by a score of 21-7 with time consuming drives in the second half that decided the contest. Bloomsburg held the ball for over nine minutes on just two drives in the third quarter alone.

Warrior run was forced to punt on their opening drive of the game and Bloom took over on their own 16 yard line, then proceed to march down field aided by a 60 yard completion from Brosious to Jharee Moore-Stewart on a wide receiver screen that set up the Panthers at the Defenders 20. Wyatt Schrader then punched it in from three yards out, the extra-point was blocked making the score 6-0

Warrior Run the scored on their ensuing drive as Tyler Ulrich cased in a score from five yards out the PAT was good making the score 7-6. The drive covered 71 yards on eight plays, the key play was a 49 yard run by Denyn Beachel.

The Defenders then forced a Panther punt on their next possession and Cohen too the punt from his own 25 and darted down the visitor sidelines for a 75 yard return giving the home team a 14-6 advantage with 1:29 left in the opening quarter.

Bloom would answer right back by going on a 10-play, 80 yard drive that Schrader would find the end zone from 6 yards out, the two-point conversion was good tying the game at 14.

At the 5:18 mark of the second quarter, Warrior Run regained the lead at 21-14 when quarterback James Keiffer hooked up with Tyler Ulrich for a 9 yard touchdown as after catching the ball at the two yard line, Ulriched dodged a would-be-tackler before crossing the goal line.

Warrior Run the created the only turnover of the game as they picked off a Brosious pass, his first of the season at the Bloom 46, but what looked like a Defender touchdown on the drive was taken off the board due to a penalty.

Then with just 46 seconds left GeForce halftime Brosious made his way into the end zone with a 21 yard run as he first rolled to his right and then broke back to the left side and just got inside the pylon, as the officials confirmed the score tying the game at 21 as the teams left for the locker room.

“We took what they gave us, but it all starts with Brosious,” an elated coach Mike Kogut stated after the game. “We put it in his hands. We were attacking the outside and he made the plays when it counted.” He concluded

The Panthers started with ball to begin the second half and from their own 30 marched down field, after a penalty backed up Bloom at the Defender 14, Brosious hooked up with Krue Wheadon for a 32 yard score to regain the lead at 27-21 as again the point-after was no good.

The key play of the game came when Warrior Run was stopped on a fourth down play in Panther territory and Broscious led the drive down field that led to another score for the sinal-caller from 4 yards out with 1:27 left in the third quarter making it a two scores game at 35-21.

Brosious, who finished the night with 316 yards passing on 18 completions on 33 attempts and a touchdown ran for 93 yards and 3 scores on 16 carries. He capped off the Panther scoring with a 5 yard score in the fourth quarter.

Ulrich, of Warrior scored from 2 yards out after a 75 yard drive as the Defenders could only must 126 yards in the second half.
