Seneca Valley Scores Big In Second Quarter, Defeats Hempfield 27-15

In the first quarter, Hempfield started with the ball and drove the ball deep into Seneca Valley early. Seneca Valley’s defense was able to hang on and keep Hempfield from reaching the end zone. The drive ended with a twenty-seven-yard field goal made by Sawyer Leuthold with 8:39 left to go in the first quarter. Seneca Valley and Hempfield traded possessions as the first quarter ended, but Seneca Valley found the end zone on their second drive as the second quarter started. Wide receiver Brayden Wise found the end zone for Seneca Valley on an eleven-yard catch. The extra point was good, and Seneca Valley took a 7-3 lead eleven seconds into the second quarter. Seneca Valley got the ball back a few minutes later and ended with a nine-yard touchdown catch by JT Wolfe. Unfortunately, this touchdown for Seneca Valley was called back due to a holding penalty called on the Seneca Valley offensive line. Seneca Valley settled with a thirty-yard field goal made by Max Eisenhut to make it a 10-3 Seneca Valley lead with 5:35 left to go of the first half. Hempfield, on their next drive, quickly faced a fourth and long at midfield when junior Andrew Jones ran it for a first down on a fake punt. Hempfield found the end zone three plays later on a third and twenty, thanks to Aidan Allison. Seneca Valley blocked the extra point to keep it a 10-9 game with only 1:45 left to go of the first half.

Seneca Valley only took a minute on their next drive to find the end zone on a touchdown pass caught by wide receiver Danny Drennan to make it a 17-10 game with only 43.5 seconds left of the first half. Hempfield, however, did not go to the locker room empty-handed by scoring a forty-plus yard touchdown by wide receiver Jack Kopas. The two-point conversion attempt was intercepted by Seneca Valley to keep it a 17-15 Seneca Valley lead heading into halftime.
To start the second half, Seneca Valley and Hempfield both traded possessions early, but it was Seneca Valley who scored first after Hempfield turned it over on downs deep into their own territory on their second drive. The Seneca Valley drive ended with a twenty-eight-yard touchdown by junior Chase Mazanek. The extra point was good to give Seneca Valley a 24-15 lead with 4:18 left to go in the third quarter. Hempfield’s offense continued to struggle, punting the ball back to Seneca Valley a minute later. Seneca Valley kept possession of the ball the whole way into the fourth quarter when kicker Max Eisenhut hit a forty-four-yard field goal down the middle to give Seneca Valley a 27-15 lead with 11:03 left to go of the fourth quarter.

Seneca Valley’s defense held strong on Hempfield’s next drive when junior Adam Bayer intercepted the ball and gave Seneca Valley possession at midfield with a little over nine minutes left to go of the fourth quarter. Seneca Valley ran the clock down to 1:34 before punting the ball back to Hempfield. Hempfield started the drive on their own twenty-yard line down by twelve. On the drive, Hempfield got the ball to their own thirty-seven-yard line before Seneca Valley forced a turnover on downs with forty-three seconds left to go. Seneca Valley quickly ran the clock to all zeros to win this game 27-15 over Hempfield.
