Seton LaSalle rallies from 14 down to win first WPIAL Championship since 2004

After coming up short last year Seton LaSalle was able to win their first WPIAL Championship since 2004. They won this game in thrilling fashion coming back from down 14-0 to beat Steel Valley 21-14. “Feels pretty good” said Coach Storino.
Seton LaSalle started the game with ball and the drive started on their own 40 yard line. After a couple of runs they were in Steel Valley territory. Eventually they went for it on fourth down and turned the ball over on downs when the run fell short.
Steel Valley’s first drive was similar to Seton LaSalle’s first drive having success running the ball but the drive stalled after a couple of penalties.
Seton LaSalle’s second drive started at their own 9 yard line and didn’t get past midfield and had to punt it away.
Seton LaSalle’s third drive also started inside their own 10 yard line and eventually punted it away. The one positive thing Seton LaSalle did in the first half was their defense was able to make 2 goal line stands.
The game was scoreless at halftime.
In the second half after Steel Valley scored twice, Seton LaSalle’s Will Martin intercepted a Steel Valley pass and they had the ball Steel Valley 21 yard line. On the third play Will Martin ran it on a 8 yard touchdown run.

The following Seton LaSalle drive was looking good after a couple of good runs they were out past midfield they continued to move the ball. After they got inside their own 30 yard line the drive stalled and they tuned it over on downs. The score at the end of third quarter was 14-7 Steel Valley.
The fourth quarter is where Seton LaSalle came up big. Late in the fourth quarter, Seton LaSalle started a drive on their own 39 yard line. After one run they were already into Steel Valley territory. The drive was finished off on a 6 yard touchdown run by Will Martin. That tied the game at 14 with 4:05 in the fourth quarter.

Seton LaSalle started their last drive of the game on their own 23 yard line. After a big run by Kymarr Freeman they were into Steel Valley territory. Eventually Will Martin scored the go ahead touchdown this one a 10 yard run. Martin was the key player for Seton LaSalle. He had all three touchdowns and also an interception that led to the first Seton LaSalle score. “I mean I didn’t know I was gonna do that but you know, I kind of envisioned it, envisioned my head , like if I go out there and play my best we’re gonna come away with the win” said Martin.
Game-winning touchdown for Seton LaSalle’s @willmartin_38 earns them the 2A WPIAL Championship title. Martin scored all three touchdowns for the Rebels.

Some key stats for Seton LaSalle were. Will Martin had 47 yards on 10 carries. Kymarr Freeman had 129 yards on 18 carries and Kia Jones had 100 yards on 14 carries. Next week Seton LaSalle will play Farrell a time and location is to be determined.
