
Shamokin blanks Lake-Lehman Friday night on the black turf in a cross-district contest

22 point second quarter barrage leads the District 4 Indians over over District 2 Black Nights.
LEHMAN TWP- Shamokin Area is not unfamiliar with football in the Wyoming Valley, most recently a contest with Greater Nanticoke Area had the Indians facing a District 2 team. O Friday night on the unique black turf field at Lake-Lehman High School, the visitors from the Susquehanna Valley left the Black Nights flat to the tune of a 49-0 mauling before a moderate crowd for the Knights home opener.
The contest opened promising for the home squad as they took they opening kickoff from their own 40 and drove it deep in the red zone but a 4th down play from inside the five came up empty and that set the stage for the visitors to take advantage of the opportunity.
Shamokin’s opening drive was capped off by a 73 yard touchdown pass as quarterback Logan Steele found a wide open Chase Pensyl, who got behind the Knight secondary for an easy touchdown, but the PAT was missed making it 6-0 with 6:22 left in the first quarter.

second quarter as the Indians scored three times to extend the lead to 28-0 by intermission. The first score coming on a nine yard run by junior running back Zakem Clinton scored to make it 14-0 and Clinton converted the two point conversion with 6:05 left on the clock.

On the ensuing Black Knight’s drive quarterback Hayden Evans pass was intercepted by Logan Steel and promptly returned 36 yards for another Shamokin score and a 21-0 lead just a minute after Clinton’s touchdown. That score took much of the air out of the stadium for the home team.
Clinton would cap off the scoring with just twenty-one seconds left before half as he bulled his way for a one yard run making the score 28-0 with teams exiting the field for the locker rooms.

It did not take long for the team in white and purple to put this game into a running clock scenario for the second half as on their opening drive running back Jayce Ginck ripped off a long run from inside his own 15 to the Lake-Lehman 12 yard line from the Clinton would score his third touchdown on the night and making it a 35-0 score with just 38 seconds gone by in the third quarter.
Ginck would then find the end zone himself from 37 yards out to extend the margin to 42-0 and Ginck weaved his way down the for sideline for the score with still 5:30 left in the third quarter.

“we are big up front and we have 8 or 9 guys who can carry the ball on any night and we are going to around for awhile.” Shamokin Coach Narc Persing stated after the game.
Sophomore wide receiver Colin Steinhart would cap off the scoring in the game as taking and end-around and finding the corner of the end zone from three yards out making a it 49-0 and that is how the game would end.

Shamokin (2-0) after beating Pottsville out of District XI last week will ba facing a familiar for next Friday at home with Shikellamy (0-2) at home. The Braves lost Lewisburg Friday night 30-0. Lake-Lehman (1-1) will be home as well to face the Northwest Area Rangers (0-2) The Rangers were blasted by Athens Friday 44-6.
