Indians defense forced five Millionaires interceptions that turned a close game into a rout.

WILLIAMSPORT- The Shamokin Indians clamped down hard on the Williamsport offense, after giving up a long kickoff return. The Millionaires capitalized on the great field position to score on their first drive of the contest to tie the score at seven. That would be the last score the rest of the way, as the Indians would score the next 35 points, all in the first half, to roll to a 42-7 victory at a packed STA Stadium dampening the spirits of the homecoming crowd.

Shamokin started the game by going on a 13-play, 87 yard scoring drive that culminated in a three yard score for running back Zakem Clinton to make it 7-0. Clinton finished the game with nearly a 100 yards rushing on 11 carries.

After a fantastic kickoff return that set Williamsport up in Shamokin territory, quarterback Tevin Williams connected with receiver Kason Ulmer for a seven yard touchdown knotting the game at 7 with 4:51 left in the opening quarter. Williams who threw for over 300 yards last week against Jersey Shore only managed to have 111 yards of offense against a Shamokin defense that hounded him all night long. The Millionaires longest drive of the night was just 5 plays. WILLIAMSPORT- was 0 for 8 on third down.

From that point on, it was all the Indians night, on both sides of the ball as defense stepped up forcing an interception, punt, punt interception, interception, punt failed 4th down attempt and two more interceptions. The Millionaires only crossed midfield once more the rest of the game. Williams finished game passing 3 for 6 and 54 yards with one touchdown.

Steele then scored from 5 yard score to make it 13-6 with 1:46 left in the quarter. He would once again get into the end zone from nine yards on Shamokin’s next drive making it 20-7 in less that a minute after a Williamsport turnover. The shifty quarterback rushed for 78 yards on 12 attempts and 4 touchdowns.

The Indians increased their lead to 27-7, when Steele scored from five yards out capping off an 12-play, 83 yard drive eating up six minutes off the clock.

Williamsport was forced to punt on their ensuing drive, where Steele picked up the bouncing ball at his own 34, dashed down the home sidelines and would cross the goal line once again from 66 yards with 3:17 left till intermission making the score 34-7.

The visitors closed out the scoring with 1:50 still left in the first half as yet another back got into the act Jayce Gink, took a hand-off ran around right end and deposited the rock in the end zone from 45 yards out making a it 42-7 with the two-point conversion. Gink led the team’s powerful running attack with 116 yards as the Indians ran the ball 43 times for over 340 yards and picked up nearly 20 first downs.

Shamokin (7-0) will be once again on the road next week to face 2-5 Lewisburg. The Green Dragons coming off a 35-7 win Friday over Midd-West. Williamsport (4-3) will also be on the road at Crispin Field to face the undefeated Berwick Bulldogs (7-0). Berwick pounded an out-manned Greater Nanticoke Area team 42-16 Friday.
