SLIPPERY ROCK, PA – It was a tale of two halves Saturday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Slippery Rock would get on the board early, following a 4-play, 65-yard drive capped off by a 24-yard rushing touchdown from Chris D’Or. After a three-and-out, quarterback Brayden Long snuck into the end zone, extending the Rock’s early lead to 14-0. Jacob Snow would get the first turnover of the game, intercepting Isaac Bernard’s pass down to the 25 of Edinboro. Then, 7 seconds into the second quarter, tight end Kam Kruzelyak slipped through the Boro defense for the 14-yard score. An Ali Abdul-Hakim forced fumble recovered by Munchie Johnson set up Connor Chrisman for the 1-yard receiving touchdown from Long.

However, just when it appeared that Slippery Rock would run away with it, Edinboro’s offense would respond. A 37-yard return from Jerry Dinkins set the Fighting Scots up at their 46-yard line. 7-plays, including a 4th down conversion, later, Bo Swartz would cap off the drive, powering into the end zone for the 2-yard score. The Rock’s offense would look to stay hot, but a forced fumble by Khalil Harden set Boro’s offense up on the Rock’s 45-yard line. The Fighting Scots threatened again but settled for a 26-yard field goal before the half.

On the opening drive of the second half, Edinboro would go 15-plays for 72-yards, before Bo Swartz would again find the endzone on a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Slippery Rock’s offense would again attempt to stop the bleeding with a field goal, but the Jake Mullins 37-yard attempt was pulled to the right no good. The Rock’s defense would stand tall, forcing a punt from Edinboro after a three-and-out. However, a muffed catch from Kanye Thompson set the Scots up on Slippery Rock’s 7-yard line. Caron Robinson would make quick work of the turnover, rushing 7-yards into the end zone to make it a one-score game.

Slippery Rock’s offense would finally step up when it mattered most. Following a 62-yard punt from Reed Martin that would be downed on the Rock’s own 1-yard line, plays from Idris Lawrence and Brayden Long burned off the remaining 9:18 of the game.

Slippery Rock will be on the road next Saturday to take on rival #25 Indiana (PA). The Crimson Hawks remained undefeated after defeating Clarion 31-0 on Saturday, putting up 426 total yards of offense against the Golden Eagles 114.
