SLIPPERY ROCK, PA – It was a flawless homecoming afternoon for Brayden Long and the Slippery Rock offense. Slippery Rock, who has been shaky over the previous two weeks, found the end zone on 5 of their 6 full possesions.
Slippery Rock’s offense would be faced with a tall task right out of the gate, after Gannon’s Bryson Costa booted a 52-yard punt that was downed at the 1-yard line. However, a 17-play, 99-yard drive capped off by a Brayden Long 6-yard connection to Mike Solomon gave SRU the early lead. Gannon would respond with a 17-play drive themselves, taking just under 10 minutes off the clock. Bryson Costa would drill the 23-yard field goal, chipping away at the deficit. Brayden Long would respond with a 21-yard touchdown strike to the returning Logan Ramper.

Gannon’s offense drained out the remaining 6:58 of the half, with an 18 play, 69-yard drive. However, Bryson Costa’s 33-yard field goal attempt would be pulled wide left, keeping the score 14-3 heading into the locker room.
The Rock’s offense would stay perfect on the opening drive of the half, with Brayden Long using his legs for the 3-yard rushing score. However, Gannon’s offense would find the end zone on the following drive, when Jayde Whitaker connected with Mike Watkins for the 36-yard score. Unfortunatley for Gannon, this wouldn’t phase The Rock’s offense. An 11 play, 83-yard drive ended in a 1-yard rushing touchdown from Idris Lawrence, putting SRU up 28-10.

Heading into the 4th, The Rock’s defense would force just the second punt of the game following a 3-and-out from Gannon. Brayden Long would make quick work, finding JayJay Jordan for the 44-yard touchdown. A quarterback change for Gannon gave a much needed refresh for the Golden Knights. Elijah Banks lead Gannon’s offense to an 8 play, 79-yard drive, ending in a quarterback keeper 3-yards into the endzone.

An unsuccessful onside kick attempt set SRU up to go 6/6 on the day. However, following a blocked Jake Mullins field goal at the 6-yard line called back due to an offsides, SRU would elect to go for it from the 3. Kam Kruzelyak would be unable to escape the Gannon defender, giving the Golden Knights defense their first stop of the game. Despite this, the ball would be right back in The Rock’s hands, after Pooh Lawton interecpted Elijah Banks’ pass on the 44-yard line. Slippery Rock would drain the remaining 4:49 of the game, keeping The Rock undefeated.
Brayden Long went 27-39, 319 yards, 3 touchdowns. Chris D’Or led the Rock’s rushing attacking, with 78-yards on 10 attempts. Kylon Wilson was Long’s top receiving target, with 8 receptions for 77-yards. Teddy Gregory Jr led The Rock in tackles, with 10 total and 7 solo. Todd Hill and John Brown both recorded sacks. Jake Mullins went 5-for-5 on extra point attempts.
Slippery Rock will face a cruicial PSAC West matchup next week against 5-1 California (PA) at Adamson Stadium. Cal U’s only loss thus far came in week one at #23 Charleston (WV), where they lost 19-23. The Vulcans have flirted with upsets in their previous two contests at Seton Hill and Clarion, winning both games by a combined 11 points.
