Souderton, PA- In an electrifying first-round matchup of the District 1 playoffs, the number 3 seed Souderton Indians (11-0,7-0) secured a hard-fought 21-14 win against the number 14 seed Pennsbury Falcons (5-6,3-4). This thrilling victory propels the Indians to an unprecedented 11-0 record, marking a historic milestone for their school. Head coach Ed Gallagher gleamed, “That’s something that can never be taken away from this team- To get 11 wins, a school record, is such a great accomplishment and we get to keep going.”

The game kicked off with both teams showcasing their defensive prowess, resulting in a scoreless tie by halftime with the Falcons taking a slight 3-0 lead thanks to Angelo Pereira’s 26-yard field goal late in the first quarter. The tension continued to build as the game progressed into the second half.

With 4:45 remaining in the third quarter, Houston Marshall of the Indians broke through the Falcons’ defense and scored from 2 yards out, giving Souderton a 7-3 lead that persisted until the end of the quarter. As the clock ticked away, Pereira once again displayed his accuracy, connecting from 18 yards out to narrow the Indian lead to just one point, making it 7-6 with 9:55 left to play in the fourth quarter.

Pennsbury fought back resiliently, as Jordan Brensinger turned heads by bolting 52 yards to the end zone, followed by a successful 2-point conversion to take the lead 14-7 with only 3:16 remaining in the game. However, Souderton’s determination knew no bounds as they clawed their way back.

Ryan Sadowski became the hero of the night, scoring a crucial 15-yard touchdown to even the score at 14-all with a mere 1:59 left on the clock. The ensuing extra point was successful, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

With only 16 seconds remaining, Sadowski struck again, this time with a stunning 27-yard rushing touchdown that put the Indians ahead 21-14. Sophomore Hunter Smeltz sealed the deal with an interception on Pennsbury’s final attempt to salvage the game. Head coach Ed Gallagher said after the game, “I knew this was going to be a tight game. Yes, it was a 14 (seed) against a three, but Pennsbury is a really good football team and this was a battle all the way. But when it came down to it, our two big seniors, Danny Dyches and Ryan Sadowski, stepped up and got it done for us.”

The Indians’ resilience and playmaking abilities were evident throughout the game, ultimately securing their spot in school history with an unforgettable 11-0 record. As they move forward in the playoffs, Souderton will undoubtedly look to build upon this thrilling victory as they chase their championship dreams.

Notable performances included Souderton’s Ben Walsh completing 11 of 19 passes for 148 yards, Ryan Sadowski rushing 18 times for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Chase Johnson catching 4 balls for 51 yards. For Pennsbury, Jordan Brensinger showcased his speed and skill, rushing 14 times for 112 yards and a touchdown.
