South Fayette (7) vs Dunmore (2)

Check back for updates from PFN Editor Chris Kucharski for observations during the game.

2:32pm: South Fayette becomes the first Class AA team to win back-to-back titles.  Another great game in Hershey. The 12 men in the huddle penalty was a killer as Dunmore was poised to go up two scores.  The Lions got the stop they needed and then two big plays by Hunter Hayes and Dan Trimbur were the difference in the game.

2:31pm: Dunmore not using time outs (they have three). South Fayette not taking a knee. Interesting.

2:30pm: Hayes takes Lions into the red zone.

2:28pm: DeLuccie gives it right back to the Lions with a fumble. South Fayette ball.

2:27pm: Bucks aren’t dead yet. Hayes fumbles. Dunmore recovers.

2:25pm: South Fayette stops the Bucks on 4th down and will get the ball back with 4:55 left. Lions just have to run the clock.

2:19pm: Brumbaugh finally hits a big play in the passing game finding Trimbur for a 37-yard TD pass.  Big plays here late have been the difference for the Lions. South Fayette 28, Dunmore 16. 8:27pm left.

2:14pm: Lions get the stop and forces Dunmore to punt on 4th and 2. 10:33 remaining. A TD drive here can put this game away.

2:11pm: End of 3rd quarter. South Fayette leads 21-16. Dunmore has outplayed the Lions for the most part, but the penalties have killed the Bucks.

2:07pm: Hunter Hayes breaks through and races 95 yards for a Lions TD. South Fayette leads 21-16.

2:06pm: South Fayette gets a stop on 4th and 5.  Dunmore had it 1st and goal at the 2, but had 12 men in the huddle and never recovered.

1:58pm: Colin Holmes gets Dunmore into the red zone with 5:20 left in third.

1:52pm: The penalties hurt the Lions this time. SF can’t convert third down. Bucks get ball back at their 39 yard line.

1:45pm: After the initial  first down, Lions get a stop. Dunmore punts. First offensive possession for Lions at their own 13 after a nice punt by Kyle Lasher.

1:42pm: Bucks killing themselves with penalties. Back-to-back procedures put Dunmore in 3rd and long, but Murray runs for 20 yards.

1:39pm: Dunmore gets the ball to start the second half.

1:17pm: South Fayette completes a pass to the 20 and then we get a slew of time outs. Joe Rossi sends his kicker off and the kick is wide left and Dunmore goes into the half leading 16-14.

1:12pm: Lions strip the ball from Holmes and South Fayette gets ball at the Dunmore 43 with 30 seconds left.

1:07pm: The field position helps the Lions cash in as Ryan Schmider catches a 8-yard TD pass from Brumbaugh. Dunmore 16-14 lead.

1:02pm A penalty brings back a big run by Dunmore and South Fayette pushes the Bucks back to their goal line. Kyle Lasher punts but Lions will have great field position with 2:29 left in half. Ball at the 24 yardline of Dunmore.

12:58pm: Hayes fumbles in the red zone. Bucks recover.

12:55pm: South Fayette forces a three and out and finally gets stopped. Dunmore punts and the Lions have great field position at the Bucks 39 yard line.

12:53pm: Dunmore forces a three and out. Brumbaugh continues to struggle. 2 for 9 on the day so far. Bucks ball at their 20 yard line.

12:47pm: South Fayette gets a stop at the 10 and Dunmore kicks their second field goal of the season to make it a two score game. Bucks 16-7.

12:43pm: Dunmore in the red zone again. Lions have no answers right now up front.

12:40pm: A bad punt by South Fayette gives the Bucks great field position and one run later Dunmore has the ball at 23.  End of 1st quarter.  Bucks lead 13-7. Brumbaugh does not look comfortable so far. Dunmore front is the reason.

12:33pm: The Bucks impose their will and overcome penalties to score again. Holmes with a four-yard TD run. Bucks up 13-7.

12:27pm: Dunmore had back-to-back to penalties, but only needed two runs to get the yardage back and a first down. The Bucks are dominating up front now.

12:21pm: The Lions get on the Hunter Hayes train. He has all the carries on the drive and score from 9-yards out. Brumbaugh only threw one pass and completed it on their third down conversion. They make the extra point. South Fayette 7-6.

12:18pm: South Fayette now moving the ball on the ground. Converts a third down into the red zone for the first time today.

12:15pm: Dunmore scores quickly. Garrett Murray 34-yd TD run. South Fayette had 11 in the box and couldn’t stop the Bucks.

12:11pm: Eric DeLuccie intercepts Brett Brumbaugh on second play. Quick turnover forced by Dunmore.

12:10pm: We are underway. South Fayette gets the ball first,

12:04pm: Temperature at HersheyPark Stadium is 35 degrees. Windy and overcast, 15mph west to east.

12:00pm: We are 10 minutes away from kickoff. South Fayette is the away team and will wear all white. The Lions are the defending Class AA champions and have won 31 straight games.

Dunmore is the home team and will wear all crimson. The Bucks are appearing in their fourth championship game. They won Class A title in 1989. Lost in Class AA in 2007 and Class A in 2012.
