South Side runs all over Clairton, winning 28-12

In the first quarter, Clairton marches their way down the field but is stopped before getting into field goal range as Clairton turns the ball over on downs. South Side would proceed to take the ball into Clairton territory but the drive quickly stalled and South Side punted the ball back to Clairton. Clariton finished the drive with a 24-yard rushing touchdown to Donte Wright. The two-point conversion was quickly stopped by South Side, but Clairton headed into the second quarter up 6-0.

To start the second quarter, South Side’s drive finished with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Evan Navarra and took a 7-6 lead with 10:21 left to go of the first half. Clairton would not go away through driving down the field and capping off the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run by Zae-mear Correll to give Clairton a 12-7 left with a heir under four minutes to go of the second quarter. However, South Side would not go away scoring an eleven-yard rushing touchdown by Andrew Corfield with only nineteen seconds left to go of the second quarter. Clariton’s drive would quickly run out and South Side went into halftime with a 14-12 lead over Clairton.

South Side received the ball to start the second half and wasted no time scoring a 47-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Corfield to give South Side a 21-12 lead with over eight minutes to go of the third quarter. Clairton started their next drive with a huge kick return by Donte Wright giving Clairton excellent field possession and starting the drive at South Side’s 24-yard line. Clariton’s drive was halted two plays later as South Side’s Will Morgan picked up a fumble and gave South Side the ball back with just over six minutes left of the third quarter.

South Side extended their lead with 2:43 left of the third quarter thanks to Andrew Corfield’s third rushing touchdown of the night giving South Side a commanding 28-12 lead.

The fourth quarter went quiet as both teams went scoreless.

South Side will move on to the WPIAL 1A Championship game at Acrisure Stadium on Friday, November 25th against Fort Cherry. South Side has not made a WPIAL championship since 2018 when they lost to Steel Valley 48-6, and has not won a WPIAL championship since 1999.

On the other hand, Clairton finishes with a record of 10-2 and gets handed their first loss since week two.
