On Friday night, Southmoreland defeated Ringgold 28-7 thanks to a dominant third quarter.
Ringgold won the coin toss and received the opening kickoff. With that, the Rams produced a drive that lasted over seven minutes and came away with a missed 30-yard field goal.
Southmoreland’s opening drive lasted less than two minutes and resulted in a quick punt that took an unfortunate bounce keeping Ringgold deep in Scottie territory.
Ringgold, though, was not able to move the ball much further thanks to a fourth-down sack by Jackson Mickens.
Southmoreland was able to find the end-zone on the ensuing drive. Mickens collected his first rushing touchdown of the evening and the Scotties led 7-0 early in the second quarter.
Ringgold responded with a touchdown of their own despite having five separate penalties, three of which were illegal procedures. Starting QB, Dennis Hawkins had the rushing touchdown and tied the game at seven.

This was the score held into halftime as both teams had drives resulting in turnover on downs, and a punt.
Southmoreland did not hesitate starting off the third quarter with Dawson Wolfe rushing into the endzone for the Scotties and a successful two-point conversion, Southmoreland led 15-7.
A great opening drive in the 3rd sitter for the Scotties, as @WolfeDawso49436 powers forward into the enrobe for a 1 yard touchdown to put Southmoreland back on top. 2pt try successful.@RinggoldFball 7-15 @SHSFootball4U

Ringgold turned around and punted their next possession, while Southmoreland tacked on another three points from kicker Liam Smith and led 18-7. That core held entering the fourth quarter.
Southmoreland opened the fourth quarter like the third, resulting in extending their lead with another Smith field goal and led 21-7.
From here on out all of Ringgold’s drives resulted in turnovers and that included a Mickens pick-six that gave the final score of 28-7.
With the win, Southmoreland extends their undefeated season to 5-0 overall, and travels on the road to conference opponent Derry. Ringgold drops to 3-2 overall on the season and plays host to conference opponent Trinity.
