Welcome to the LHAC Power Index Week 3 Rankings. Last week the model suffered one of its worst weeks in its 2 years of testing (it was bound to happen at some point). The model went 7-3, missing the mark on Johnstown, Penn Cambria, and Bellwood-Antis.
This seems like a good time to explain how the model deals with adjustments, since there’s bound to be some controversy. Essentially, the model learns a little more about each team, each week. As we progress through the season, the model will start to dial in how it has the teams ranked, as it (in theory) becomes more accurate each week.
However, one thing to note is that the model will have teams that lose to other teams remain higher than them (i.e.: Penn Cambria and Forest Hills). This is because the model learns, it does not overreact to one week. Football is a game played between the lines, and data can only go so far. According to the data, if Penn Cambria and Forest Hills played a series of games, Penn Cambria would win about 77% of those games. Therefore, the model does not see itself as being wrong; it just sees the result as improbable.
Anyways, shall we see the Power Rankings:

Week 2 Takeaways:
- Richland and McCort hold the top two spots after victories over Westmont and Chestnut Ridge, respectively. That sets up a huge Thursday night showdown between the Rams and Crushers with the top spot on the line.
- Clearfield reenters the top 5 after beating Philipsburg-Osceola by 12 in a game that was never really in doubt.
- Forest Hills took down the Penn Cambria Panthers in a comeback, 22-18, in the league’s biggest game of the week, climbing two spots to No. 6.
- 4 Teams from East 2 in top 11 – Clearfield, Philipsburg, Bald Eagle, and Bellefonte are tightly bunched in the top 11. Who will come out on top?
- Huntingdon cracks the Top 10 after the most surprising start of any team, taking down Bald Eagle, Somerset, and Bellwood-Antis. Last week, they squeezed out a 7-6 win over the Blue Devils, moving up two spots in the rankings.
- The bottom 6 teams remain completely unchanged, after all losing except for Somerset who beat fellow bottom fiver, Greater Johnstown 34-8
