Welcome to the LHAC Power Index Week 4 Rankings. Last week, the model went 8-2 missing on Central Cambria and Tyrone. This brings the total record to 30-10 (75%) on the season.
As the season progresses, the model’s adjustments will become more gradual, as it dials in the ratings and rankings of each team. This week the model moved teams around much less, because almost all of the favorites won their games. However, there were a few risers and fallers amongst the 20 teams in the Laurel Highlands.
Shall we see the Week 4 rankings…

Week 4 Takeaways:
- Richland & McCort remain the top 2 teams by a wide margin after their game on September 11th, where the Crushers beat the Rams 31-12. The model did not flip the teams after Week 4, but the margin has narrowed between them by 48 ELO points (3.2 points in the win margin). The Rams had an interception and gave up multiple explosive plays in a game that McCort dominated. We can only hope that these two teams meet again in the PIAA 2A District Playoffs.
- Top six remain unchanged for the first time this season after this week’s games. The model has decided on its top teams in the Laurel Highlands and they are starting to widen the gap between themselves and the rest of the competition. Week 5 will feature another matchup of two top six teams when Richland travels to Sidman to play the Forest Hills Rangers.
- Tyrone enters the top 10 after beating Bald Eagle by 21-14. The Golden Eagles are on a three game win streak after their Week 1 loss, which was only by a single point. Tyrone’s offense has been rolling recently, averaging 32.7 points per game, with two of those games coming against very good defenses. The Golden Eagles will have their hands full this week as they defend their homefield from rival Bellwood-Antis.
- Bald Eagle falls three spots to number 12 after losing to Tyrone, their third loss of the year. The Eagle’s three losses have all come against top 10 teams according to the model. Unfortunately for Bald Eagle, their schedule does not get any easier, with matchups against Philipsburg (7), Bellefonte (11), and Clearfield (5) looming in the next three weeks.
- Central Cambria remains unchanged at 17 despite their 2-2 record. The Red Devils have won against Penns Valley and Greater Johnstown, both of which are below them in the rankings. The old coach adage of ‘You can only beat what’s in front of you” rings true for Central Cambria, as they have beat the teams they should. In their next five games, they will play 3 teams in the 13-16 range of the rankings (Chestnut Ridge, Central, and Somerset) before their crossover matchup. The Red Devils could be a surprise to a lot of people at the end of the season depending on how they play in their toss up games.
