Welcome to the LHAC Power Index Week 7 Rankings. Last week, the model went 6-4, missing on Bellefonte, Clearfield, Tyrone, and Bedford. That brings the total record to 50-20 (71%) on the season.
Last week the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference teams began their final sprint towards the end of the season and we saw some interesting results. Naturally, this week did not go as the model had planned, but that means we got some shakeup in the rankings. Even if the model had a bad week, we still had a great one, because everyone loves a good underdog win. You can always count on the LHAC for a few of those a year.
Shall we see the Week 7 rankings…

Week 7 Takeaways:
- The top five remain unchanged for yet again, but that is unlikely to stay the case for the next three weeks. All top 5 teams took care of business, combining for an average win margin of 28.2 in Week 7. Things will change in Week 8 when Bishop Guilfoyle will travel to Sidman for a matchup with Forest Hills in a battle of the 6-1 teams
- Clearfield has pendulumed between the six and 10 spot in the rankings all season, but returns to number six after a tight defensive battle against Bald Eagle, where the Bison won 12-6. The Bison held Bald Eagle to just 116 yards rushing, while the Eagles averaged over 160 in their first six weeks. The Clearfield will get just one week before they have to take on Bishop Guilfoyle in a matchup that could determine the East representative in the LHAC Championship
- Tyrone reenters the top 10 after a 41-21 beatdown of Huntingdon. The Golden Eagles came into week 7 averaging 97 rushing yards per game and left the week with 257 yards on the ground. 257 rushing yards is always impressive, let alone doing it against a top defense in the LHAC known for stuffing the run. Tyrone could be a sneaky factor down the stretch, as they travel to Cresson for a District 6 3A championship rematch this week against Penn Cambria
- Bellwood-Antis falls another spot this week to #11 after their second straight loss, 14-21 at Bishop Guilfoyle. The Blue Devils are probably the best sub-.500 team in the area, as their losses have come to teams with a combined 22 wins and six losses. Last week, they took BG to the fourth quarter, scoring 14 unanswered in the third quarter, before allowing a big drive late in the game. Before the LHAC crossover game, the Blue Devils will still have to face two solid opponents, Chestnut Ridge and Bellefonte, and they will need wins in both if they want their playoff chances to stay alive
- Penns Valley looked like they may secure their first win of the season, before Central scored a touchdown with 23 seconds left. The Rams did score their most points of the season last week, putting up 25, one short of the Dragons 26. Penns Valley will get their first opportunity for a win this week against Johnstown, before their second arrives in the crossover game
