Clearfield (5-2) @ Somerset (2-5): Clearfield -13
A potential Week 8 trap game looms for the Bison when they travel to take on Somerset on Friday night, a week before a huge LHAC showdown that could determine a championship spot against Bishop Guilfoyle. While most teams would agree with the statement that there is no place like home, the Bison are 3-0 in away games with a win margin of only 5.3 points. Somerset has faced some offensive struggles this season, scoring only 16.9 points per game, but will rely on QB Colt Hagans (743 yards passing and five touchdowns) to try and score. I see Clearfield’s defense shutting this game down early and taking them into Week 8 with a chance at a championship spot.
Bald Eagle (3-4) @ Westmont (0-7): Bald Eagle -17
Sometimes teams match up really well against one another’s strengths, which creates some lopsided scores, and this could be one of those weeks. Bald Eagle has had one of the better defenses in the area over the first eight weeks, holding opponents to only 17.4 points and last week held offensive juggernaut Clearfield to just 66 yards through the air (they had averaged 130 per game). On the other hand, Westmont has been shut out twice and has only averaged 6.6 points per game. Unfortunately for the Hilltoppers, this could easily be another shutout; the Eagles should take the win.
Huntingdon (5-2) @ Bedford (5-2): Huntingdon -6
Last week’s blowout loss at Tyrone could be foreshadowing to the future, or could be a forgotten blip on the radar depending on how the Bearcats finish their season, and that starts against Bedford. Huntingdon had a top-three run defense in the conference before their last game, holding teams to only 133 rushing yards per game, before allowing 260 yards to Tyrone (they had only rushed for 106 yards a week before that). Meanwhile, Bedford has leaned on the ground game this season, as they have rushed 147 times compared to 96 passes (60% of their offense). Huntingdon will get their chance to restart their defensive dominance this week, and a win here should reset their confidence.
Penns Valley (0-7) @ Greater Johnstown (1-6): Penns Valley -6
2025 has not gone the way either of these teams wanted, but this week they have a chance to put one more mark in the win column and begin to build momentum toward 2026. Penns Valley lost a heartbreaker last week on a last-second touchdown, after leading the entire second half, but did score their most points (25) since Week 9 of 2024. Last week, Johnstown was shut out for the first time since Week 9 of 2023. I think Penns Valley’s offense is trending in the right direction lately, and Johnstown’s is going the opposite way, leading the Rams to their first win of the season.
Central (2-5) @ Central Cambria (2-5): Central -9
Momentum does not just swing games, but it swings seasons, and this game is a tale of teams moving in opposite directions. Central’s record does not show a lot of positives, but over the last two weeks, since the return of their quarterback Jesse Muthler, the Dragons’ offense has been finding its rhythm, getting over the 400-yard mark for the first time this season. Meanwhile, Central Cambria has lost three in a row, scoring only seven total points since September 13th. The Dragons will have to watch out for the Red Devil run game, but I see their offense continuing to improve and carrying them to another close win.
Bellwood-Antis (3-4) @ Chestnut Ridge (3-4): Bellwood-Antis -3
Records do not always tell the whole story, and this game should showcase that heavily. Bellwood’s four losses had an average margin of 6.5 points and came to opponents with a combined record of 21-7. Chestnut Ridge’s story is not very different, as their losses have an average margin of 16.5 but a combined opponent record of 22-6. This will be a close, run-heavy game, but I see Bellwood running away with the win in the second half.
Bellefonte (3-4) @ Richland (6-1): Richland -27
Two very different trajectories will meet in Johnstown this week, as a wildly inconsistent Bellefonte will take the field against the picture of stability in Richland. Bellefonte’s results have swung from big wins to horrible losses throughout the season; however, their defense (only allowed 200 yards to PO in Week 7) will give them the ability to win on any given Friday. Meanwhile, Richland has been cruising through their schedule, with a win margin of 32.7 across their six wins. Bellefonte is a talented team, but I think Richland’s offense will be too much to handle.
Philipsburg-Osceola (4-3) @ Bishop McCort (7-0): McCort -18
The last matchup between Johnstown and State College area teams in Week 8 will feature highly explosive offenses. Philipsburg has a one-two punch of Law and Chapman, leading the way to their 1,287 yards rushing through seven weeks. McCort remains undefeated thus far, behind a cast of stars, like Bentley Bainey, Jon Delia, and Ka’leem Taylor, pushing them to an average weekly score of 39.6-5.4. This game could end up resembling a track meet instead of a football game, but I see McCort’s record staying unblemished.
Tyrone (4-3) @ Penn Cambria (6-1): Penn Cambria -16
Tyrone’s 2024 season ended at the hands of Penn Cambria in the District 6 3A championship game, but the Golden Eagles will get their chance at revenge in Week 8. Tyrone’s offense was firing on all cylinders last week, posting 41 points and over 400 yards against Huntingdon in a huge upset. Penn Cambria is on a four-game win streak, outscoring opponents 155-31 in that stretch, hitting their stride down the stretch. Tyrone has the opportunity to shock fans again, but I will take Penn Cambria’s combination of offensive weapons, Vinglish and Jones, to win this game.
Bishop Guilfoyle (6-1) @ Forest Hills (6-1): Bishop Guilfoyle -10
This matchup of 6-1 teams should not disappoint, with both teams looking red-hot in 2025. Since BG’s loss to Richland, the Marauders are 5-0, beating Huntingdon, Tyrone, and Bellwood in that stretch. The Rangers started off with four straight wins before a loss to Richland and are on a two-game win streak since. The edge in this game should be Bishop Guilfoyle’s incredible defense, and I look to them to lock down this win.
