The game started off slow for Thomas Jefferson but thanks to a very strong second half Thomas Jefferson was able to comeback and cruise to an easy 37-14 win over Central Valley.
Central Valley went three and out on their first drive. The first Thomas Jefferson drive was looking very good. After a fourth down conversion they were at the Central Valley 14 yard line. On first down the ball was fumbled and Central Valley recovered.
Central Valley took advantage of that turnover the big play was a big 62 yard pass from Braddock Ambrose to Aaron Lawson down to the Thomas Jefferson 7 yard line. On third down Ethan Bosco scored on a one yard run making it 7-0 Central Valley with 4:03 in the first quarter.
Thomas Jefferson got the ball back but quickly went theee and out. After a bad punt Central Valley had the ball at the Thomas Jefferson 35 yard line. On the fourth play of the drive Braddock Ambrose found Lukas Gerovac on a 6 yard touchdown pass. That made the score 14-0 Central Valley with 1:26 in the first quarter.
Thomas Jefferson needed an answer and that’s exactly what happened on the fourth play when Tyler Eber scored on a 72 yard touchdown run. “I mean he’s just, you know, he’s amazing, he really is, he wants to go all the time, I don’t know how many carries he had probably a lot, but he just wants to keep it, he’s a kid that gets better as he keeps getting more and more carries. He loves it and so you know we rely on him a lot and he answers the bell every time” said Coach Cherpak.
“Yeah so that was just needed, you know I made a mistake, and I needed to, you know counteract that and you know, anytime I make a mistake, I know it’s up to me to fix it, and I hope that turned the tides a bit” said Eber.
Toward the end of the half Central Valley went to punt it away and the kick was either partially blocked or was just a bad punt but either way Thomas Jefferson had the ball at the Central Valley 32 yard line. Eventually Thomas Jefferson found the end zone when Jeff Raible completed it to Kane Eggerton for a 8 yard touchdown pass which occurred with 46 seconds left in the first half. Central Valley led at the half 14-13. “For us to be able to get a score before half was big, that was really big” said Coach Cherpak.
Thomas Jefferson got the ball to start the second and thanks to a decent kick return by Tyler Eber the drive started at the 50 yard line. Eventually he would finish that drive off on a 2 yard run which gave Thomas Jefferson a 20-14 lead with 9:05 in the third quarter. “Our calling card is running the ball, you know we want to be physical and run the ball” said Coach Cherpak. “Yeah, it just felt great to get my team the momentum, coming out of the half time” said Eber.
Thomas Jefferson would continue to dominate, late in the third quarter they extended their lead to 23-14 on a 39 yard field goal by Sam Wessel. That was the score at the end of 3.
Once again in the fourth quarter it was all Thomas Jefferson. Tyler Eber would score 2 more touchdowns on runs of 29 and 9. Eber was the main player for Thomas Jefferson he had 39 carries for 225 yards and 4 touchdowns. The final score was 37-14 Thomas Jefferson.
Next week Thomas Jefferson has a big showdown when they travel to McKeesport. “We’ve played so many times in the last five years, I think we played, like six or seven times in those five years, so obviously, I mean they’re loaded we got to come ready to play” said Coach Cherpak. Next week Central Valley hosts Belle Vernon.
