The Trinity Hillers came into the week with a record of 1-4 after a tough slate of non-conference games. But, they started conference play with a 48-14 win over the Ringgold Rams last night.

Senior quarterback Jonah Williamson threw four touchdowns, three to junior wide receiver Braden Berdar, on what were Berdar’s only three touches of the football. Williamson also ran for two touchdowns in the contest.

Ringgold opened up the scoring when junior quarterback Dennis Hawkins hit junior wideout Demetri Lowe for a touchdown on the opening drive of the game. Trinity responded with a five minute drive of their own, ending in a Williamson 1-yard touchdown run.

Trinity forced Ringgold to punt from inside its own 5-yard line, and Williamson found a wide open Berdar to make it 14-7 Trinity shortly after.

Ringgold attempted a field goal on their next drive, but the snap was botched and recovered by Trinity. Williamson then scored his second rushing touchdown of the day, a 32-yard run to put Trinity up, 21-7 with 4:35 left in the first half.

Each team scored one more touchdown before the end of the half. Sophomore running back Nick Stasko scored on a 10-yard run, carrying Trinity defenders on his way.

As time expired, Berdar caught his second touchdown pass, avoiding a tackle in bounds at the 5-yard line that would have ended the half. The extra point was no good, and Trinity took a 27-14 lead into the locker room.

Neither team did anything on their first drive of the second half. Trinity, who received the second half kickoff, turned the ball over on downs. Ringgold turned the ball over via a fumble, recovered by senior Khi Bouman.

Junior running back Owen Gardner scored an 8-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make it 34-14. Junior Daniel Glass intercepted a pass to give Trinity the ball back, followed by a 65-yard touchdown from Berdar one play later.

Senior Javis Pugh caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Williamson on a fourth-and-2, Williamson’s sixth total touchdown of the night.

With the win, Trinity moves to 2-4 and hosts Thomas Jefferson next Friday night. Ringgold drops to 3-3 and plays host to Laurel Highlands next week.
