Trinity High Defensive End Marcus Yeager commits to Richmond

Marcus Yeager is as solid as they get on the defensive line. The 6-3, 225 pound edge rusher has the speed to contain the quarterback and stay with a back swinging out from behind the line. That makes him a prized D1 recruit. The winner of that lottery was the Richmond Spiders. They beat out the likes of UMass, Buffalo, Cornell, Monmouth, Gardner Webb, New Hampshire, Georgetown and Albany.

Marcus announced his commitment today on twitter:

Coach Kevin Yarnevich says “Marcus is one of those special players a coach gets every few years. He’s smart, talented, athletic, and a natural leader — all while being an upstanding young man. His work ethic is as good as I’ve seen in my 28 years of coaching. I’m excited to see what he does in his senior year. On offense, he’s versatile enough to spread out and cause problems for defenses, yet tough enough to block and create chaos in the trenches. On defense, he’s going to be the type of player offenses have to game plan around. I’m proud to be his coach — and Richmond is getting a good one”!

We caught up with Marcus to ask about his choice:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Spiders before your Sr season?

I chose to commit to Richmond before my senior year because after my visit there, I knew it’s where I wanted to be. I also knew I wanted to make my decision before my senior year just to not have that stress on me, and so ultimately I could enjoy my last year.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?

My biggest influences there were definitely coach Ibrahim and coach Ellis they were the major 2 recruiting me and staying in contact throughout the whole process. Another big influence was Daniel Sellers who’s a sophomore DE at Richmond, he’s also from PA too. I got in contact with him after I got my offer there and he provided me with a lot of information about the school and football program.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

There getting a player that’s gonna come in and put his head down and work from day 1. There also gonna get a kid who’s a great teammate.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

The recruiting process was a very fun but also sometimes stressful if I’m being honest, but I’m forever grateful and I wouldn’t change anything about it.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Finance or something in business

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

My mom played a big role in my decision. When we took the visit to Richmond, she loved everything just as much as I did so I know she felt comfortable with my decision, and it’s only 3 and a half hours from home so she’s not too far.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

There’s a great football tradition at Richmond. They’re also entering the Patriot league, so there will be consistently good competition.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

Building good relationships with teammates and coaches. Also being able to be a part of a successful program.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I’ve only played high school football for 2 years.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

I’d say my older brother Breon because i remember going to all of his high school and college games when I was younger and wanting to be just like him so I’d say he’s definitely had the most influence. Also my grandfather because he was a coach and taught me the game. Shoutout to Coach Justin Assadinia for being a mentor and helping me with my recruiting and teaching me skills for life.

Why do you play football?

I love the game, and I always have wanted to follow in my brothers footsteps. I also want to make my mom and grandfather proud.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

I would tell players to get started as early as possible. Develop relationships and go see places.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I’m really appreciative of my teammates and my village. I wouldn’t be able to have this opportunity if it wasn’t for the people in my circle who have sacrificed for me. My mom, brother, grandfather, Coach Justin Assadinia, Coach Hill, the whole Trinity staff. Also my counterpart Samuel Mulbah, he always pushes me to be better every day and we’re hungry for our senior season.
