Trinity’s defense intercepted four passes in the second half en route to a 42-18 win on Friday night over Chartiers Valley.

On offense for the Hillers, senior quarterback Jonah Williamson ran for four touchdowns and junior running back Owen Gardner had over 200 yards on the ground.

Williamson scored the first touchdown of the game, using a short field from a muffed punt to give Trinity an early lead. Chartiers Valley tied it five minutes later when senior quarterback Luke Miranda scored a rushing touchdown of his own. Both extra point attempts were no good.

On the next drive, Gardner broke off a 67-yard run, setting Trinity up with a goal-to-go situation, but the Hillers could not reach the back of the end zone, instead making it a 9-6 game on a field goal from Cooper Cincinnati.

Miranda helped Chartiers Valley get its first lead of the night, connecting with senior Julius Best for a touchdown. The Colts went for two, but were unsuccessful, leaving them with a 12-9 lead. Best then intercepted a pass on the next drive, but Chartiers Valley could not capitalize off the turnover.

Instead, Jonah Williamson took off for a touchdown run of 75 yards once Trinity got the ball back, putting the Hillers back on top, 15-12, after another missed extra point. Williamson scored again from three yards out before the end of the half, but Trinity did not convert on the 2-point try.

Trinity led 21-12 at halftime, a half in which kickers were a combined 0-for-3 on extra points and teams were 0-for-2 on 2-point conversion attempts.

Senior Ben Priest got the first of the four aforementioned second half interceptions on Chartiers Valley’s opening drive of the half. Trinity scored points off the turnover, with Williamson having to earn his fourth rushing touchdown of the night. There was trouble on the snap, but Williamson was able to pick it up and break a couple tacklers to score from 11 yards away.

Junior Tyler Welsh had the second Trinity interception.

Chartiers Valley briefly made it a 10 point game, as Miranda threw a 29-yard touchdown to senior wide receiver Damien Holloway, making it a 28-18 game, but Gardner scored a 48-yard touchdown less than a minute later.

Junior Daniel Glass returned an interception for a touchdown for the game’s final scoring play. Junior Chase Kostelnik intercepted a pass in the end zone to give Trinity the ball back, ending the game.

With the 42-18 win, Trinity handed Chartiers Valley its first conference loss. Trinity is now the last undefeated team in the WPIAL 4A Big Six Conference.

Next Friday, Trinity travels to Laurel Highlands and Chartiers Valley is at home against Thomas Jefferson.
