Trojans Run Over Green Hornets

Mount Union recovers front a slow start to take down Juniata Valley 35-14 on Homecoming.

JV received the opening Kickoff, and their first drive looked promising. The first play of the game Green Hornet QB Jett Rand hit Levi Thompson on 16 yard catch and run. That was the highlight of the drive and 3 plays later they punted. Zack Dick’s punt took a good bounce and left the Trojans with tough field position from the 7-yard line. Mount Union went 3 and out and then shanked the punt to about the 25-yard line. It took Juniata Valley 4 plays to find the endzone to take the lead. Luke Uplinger came into the game in a wildcat formation for the 11 Touchdown run. The PAT was good to make it 7-0.  Je’saun Robinson picked up 34 yards on the next drive for the Trojans, but that wasn’t enough. They ended up turning the ball over on downs. After a quick 3 and out by JV, Mount Union ended the quarter on another drive.

They continued on there 14 play drive which had a 4th down conversion, but it ended on another turnover on downs. JV took over the ball on their own 19 yard line. A penalty on 2nd down backed them up. 2 plays later they were set to punt. The snap went over Dick’s head and out the back of the endzone for a safety.  On the very next play Nassir Collins took the kickoff 57 yards to the house. They went for 2 but didn’t get it, making the score 8-7 with 7:24 left in the half. The Valley were moving the ball on the next drive but a holding call stopped then in their tracks. They tried to make up for it on third down with a halfback pass but it was unsuccessful causing them to punt again. Mount Union started a drive behind the legs of Robinson and QB Bryce Danish. They thought the had 22 yard TD pass but it was called back for holding. The Trojans finished with 5 penalties for 40 yards. The drive ended on another turnover on downs. JV got the ball back with 1:10 left in the half. After getting a first down Rand threw his first of his 2 interceptions, this one by Robinson to end the half with the score 8-7.

The Trojans used that momentum Robinson started with a 6 yard rushing touchdown by Josh Ryan. Danish’s PAT attempt was good. The score was 15-7 with 9:18 left in the 3rd Quarter. The Green Hornets had another bad snap on 4th down, causing Dick to try and run the ball getting tackled for a five yard loss and turnover on downs on the 17 yard line. It took Collins 1 play for 17 yards for the score. The PAT was good making the score 22-7. Bryce Weirich slipped on the kick return leaving JV on their own 10 yard line. Thompson gained a first down on a 20 yard rush. The next play Rand hit Connor Robinson on a would be big play but was called  for an ineligible man down field. JV punted a couple plays later. 60 rushing yards between Ryan and Collins on the next drive being capped off by a 40 yarder by Collins for his 2nd rushing and 3 total TD of the game.
