Twas the night before football……….

Twas the night before football and all through the land, not a player was sleeping, nor a coach nor the band….

The uniforms and helmets were all handed out, the mouthpieces boiled, ready for the rout….

The players are restless just laying in bed, while visions of victory swirl in their heads….

The coach in his office he can’t sleep a wink, he needs this last moment to think think think think…..

Out on the field there arose such a sound, oh, it’s only the sprinklers splashing the ground……

The moon hit the grass and it shined just like dew, the bleachers they sparkled the scoreboard did too…..

Then suddenly at the gate there appeared, a four wheeling object and a man and some gear…..

The driver moved swiftly he new that he must, finish preparations for practice… he just must…..

Soon the gates will be opened and the things that you’ll hear, will be crowds and the band and the girls that will cheer….

Coaches screaming at offenses “MOVE TO THE RIGHT” while the DC tells the safety “knock down everything in sight”….

The band will march on playing songs that we love, while the announcer reads ads from his perch high above….

The parents are nervous the fans are uptight. They’re hoping their team will put up a good fight….

The tickets are rolled out and ready to sell, the boosters have concessions and french fries as well….

The students will be decked out in all their teams gear, well, some may be shirtless and painted we hear….

The visiting teams buses are ready to load, they’ll take the away team to the field down the road….

They’ve all been working hard and their summers were full, of camps and of combines and those 7 on 7s too….

Everyone’s been prepping since the last game last year, the anticipation thick, the times almost here….

It will soon be game week, oh what a treat, but first they must practice and get used to the heat….

This week will go fast (it will probably be cold), then on go the pads and the players get told….

…..”We have a scrimmage this week it’s two-a-days time, and we aren’t ready”, I’m getting ahead of the rhyme….

So as you lay there awaiting the alarm clock to ring, remember to thank all those people that do all those things….

Cause without all those people you’d be sitting watching TV, there’d be no pep rallys, no scholarships or no TDs….

There be no post game meals, no bonding no game. There’d be no chance to make your schools hall of fame….

Think of the volunteers, the staff and the A-D, and yes you must also remember thank every refereee….

Now go get some sleep, you’ll need all that rest, football seasons here, we wish you all the best!
