The Central Dragons (1-1) will play host to the Tyrone Golden Eagles (1-1) in a bitter rivalry game on September 5, 2025 at 7 PM. Two hard-working communities separated by 20 miles and a mountain will renew the generations-long battle between Tyrone and Central.
Central comes into the week with some momentum after a dramatic win over Greater Johnstown on a last second touchdown. The Golden Eagles enter with a red-hot offense following a 49-6 blowout of Westmont.
The rivalry dates back to 1970, when the first game ended in a 20-20 tie. Since then, this series has been defined by tight wins and incredible performances. Recently, Central has had the upper hand, since 2019, the Dragons have won all 5 meetings, including 3 playoff matchups. However, these matchups have been full of drama, in 2019, Central QB Braden Kitt won the game on a buzzer beating QB sneak and in 2020, Central would take the District 6 Championship 17-14 on a winning field goal by Austin Keith.
Even though Central has been dominant recently, their win last season brought the all time record to deadlock at 24-24-2. Tyrone enters 2025 with confidence, after a run that got them back to the District 6 championship last season and looks to get their names in the win column once again.
The Central offense has faced challenges throughout the first two weeks, however, their rushing attack picked up steam last week. In Week 2, the Dragons rushed for 202 yards, a 90 yard increase from Week 1. On defense, the Dragons accumulated 5 TFL’s and 2 sacks against Johnstown. Central only allowed 79 rushing yards to the Trojans, and 201 total yards.
The Tyrone offense heavily improved last week, increasing their rushing yards from 49 to 265 led by RB Caleb Whitby who rushed for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns. Former receiver turned QB Eli Whoomer has been solid to start 2025, with 383 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. Defensively, the Golden Eagles only allowed 6 points last week, grabbing an interception to go along with 6 TFL’s and 2 sacks.
3 Stats to Know:
- 7 – The number of rushing touchdowns Tyrone has scored in 2 games
- 146 – Central RB Semaj Musei’s rushing yards last week
- 5 – Consecutive games Central has won over Tyrone
