Undefeated Matchup Between Bellefonte and Bishop Guilfyole

It’s an undefeated Laurel Highlands matchup tonight against the 2-0 Bellefonte Red Raiders and the 2-0, #1 ranked Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders. Both teams head into this game with impressive victories to open up the season, which will make this a very competitive week three game.

A season ago, these teams met up at Bellefonte and the score was not close at all. Bishop Guilfoyle won that game with a final score of 49-6. This year’s matchup is much more evenly matched than last year, which could make this a very interesting game. Let’s take a look at how these two look for the big Saturday night game.

Bellefonte Red Raiders

The Bellefonte Red Raiders are 2-0 for the first time since 2018 and that is with two very impressive wins. They beat Central, who went 12-1 last year and is 2-1 this season, along with Chestnut Ridge who is 2-1 this year as well. Liam Halterman is leading the team with over 200 passing yards and over 100 rushing yards. He has thrown the ball primarily to Jaeden Gabrovsek, who has over 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ashten Howell has 110 rushing yards on the season in just 7 carries.

Bellefonte has some explosive weapons on offense, but they will need to do both pass and run tonight on the Marauder defense. Bishop Guilfoyle played excellent defense in both games this season, stopping the run and pass, but for Bellefonte to win, they will need to be able to move the ball offensively. The Red Raiders will also need to prevent Hamilton Gates from scoring. Pass and rush, Gates does it all.

Bishop Guilfyole Marauders

Bishop Guilfoyle has looked excellent so far this season offensively and defensively, which is why they are ranked #1 in Single-A. Their game this far has been feeding star player Hamilton Gates. In two games, Gates has 121 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns and 157 receiving yards with two receiving touchdowns. Quarterback Chase Kissell has done very well with getting him the ball and other senior receiver Braden Reilly. Their defense is led by Jake Kissell, who has four sacks and four tackles for loss this season, along with Tyson Lestochi who has two interceptions this season.

For the Marauders to win tonight, they will need to get on the board early and key up on Bellefonte’s impact players. Being able to pass on Bellefonte’s solid defensive backs is crucial as well. The Red Raiders can stop the run, but they have not faced receivers like the Marauders yet this season. 

Overall, this game could be very interesting for the Laurel Highlands. Bishop Guilfoyle is looking like a favorite to the East side as the #1 team in Single-A, but Bellefonte has one of their best teams in recent history. It’s going to be a great game at Mansion Park at 7 PM this evening.
