The Vikings took their home field by storm Friday night when they hosted Pottstown, winning 26-6. This game was very one-sided from the beginning. Upper Merion was serving a shutout until late in the fourth.
“Man we are just finally glad to get that losing taste out of our mouth, that bad taste of losing. Our focus has been Pottstown all week long. That matter of fact is a new season for us, it is all PAC play from here on out, so we are 1-0. We took care of the ball, we had one turnover, and our guys just executed. We talk about execution, and we put an emphasis on it this week, and our guys came out and did what they had to do. Defensively, we had that goose egg going on for awhile, we gave it up in the end, but the defense played great, they played aggressively, and that is what we need to carry on into the rest of the season. Whenever we have the chance to spread the ball around, it just makes your offense that more dangerous, and we got guys that can definitely score the ball, and it felt great to get the ball in their hands and let them show what they can do. Their hard work is paying off” said head coach Marquis Weeks postgame.
The scoring got opened up late in the first quarter. Rudolf Wilhelm tossed a short screen to Nasir Harper for six. Wilhelm had himself a game Friday, some may say the best he has had all season. He did it in four passing touchdown fashion.
“Everybody came out with great energy, we were ready to go from the beginning. We came out, went down the field, it didn’t go our way, but we came back and put it in the endzone. It felt great being able to distribute the ball to everybody”. said Wilhelm postgame.
Upper Merion capped off the first half adding a second touchdown. This time Zion Smith getting involved, catching a short slant. After a miscue on the PAT attempt, the halftime score was 13-0.
In the third quarter, not much changed. Upper Merion continued to put the pedal to the medal. Kylee Hill started the scoring, catching a long ball. Hill finished the day with two touchdowns, scoring his second early in the fourth and final quarter.
“I’m excited, I feel like we could have put up more, but we need to fix some mistakes. First win in the PAC, so we start 1-0 in PAC, then we continue play next week and hopefully we can go 2-0. We played as a team today. Defensive side we played as a team, we got to the ball, 11 is 1, which is what we go by. I feel we played as one today. I’ve been quiet these past couple of weeks, but I came out this game and told my quarterback we are not losing this game, we are feeling good right now”. said Hill postgame, showing the confidence Upper merion displayed.
The Vikings travel to Phoeniville next week, as they look to remain undefeated in PAC play.
