The Indians of Upper Perkiomen continued their strong season taking down Upper Merion Friday night by a score of 42-6. They came into this game riding high off of a win against Pope John Paul ll. Smash mouth bully ball, and fighting until every whistle are just a couple of ways Upper Perk led the way.

Upper Merion started out with the football. They had a nice drive stirring, until going four and out. The Indians quickly capitalized on their fourth down defensive stand with a rushing touchdown from Zach Adam. Adam rushed for two touchdowns.

The Vikings got their chance to answer on the very next drive. Marching all the way down the field with Quarterback Rudolf Wilhelm leading the way, they did just that. Teddy Walmsley caught the touchdown and after a miscue on the PAT attempt, the closing score of the first quarter was 7-6.

To start the second quarter the Indians were set up in Upper Merion territory, credited to a big kickoff return. Indians Quarterback Grayson Sobo would throw his first touchdown of two, and put his squad up by two scores.

Upper Merion was done scoring after their first touchdown. Drives were not able to be finished, defense could not get stops, and questionable offensive decisions were made.

“They came out ready to play, and we didn’t show up. They are a very disciplined team, well coached and it showed tonight” said Upper Merion head coach Marquis Weeks, postgame.

Right before the half, Upper Perk scored two back to back touchdowns. The first one was another Sabo passing touchdown and with 10 seconds and counting on the clock the Indians secured a pick six. They went for two and made the score 29-6 at halftime.

The Indians picked up right where they left off entering the second half. They took the kickoff deep into Viking territory. Zach Adam scored his second on the first play from scrimmage, 35-6. They then got the ball back, chewed some clock and gave Fullback Kane Krier the ball on short field and Krier ran it in for six. At this point the deficit was by 36 points which meant the mercy rule went into effect.

Upper Perkiomen took down Upper Merion by a final score of 42-6, and had a celebratory homecoming win. On the other side, the Vikings return home next week for their homecoming game, hosting Pottsgrove.
