Most thought this would be a tough game for both Downingtown West and Freedom and for the first half it was. The Patriots score first on a 40 yd TD run by LaShawn Jackson Freedom up 7-0. Then Whippets Cole Bricker sneaks it in from the 1 on 4th and goal to tie it up at 7 -7.
Mason Sharp added 2 FGs and to make it 13-7 at the half. With the Patriots down 6 to start the 2nd half and Freedom getting the ball, Coach Roeder had to feel like his team had a good chance to take the lead to start the half. But Downingtown West’s Brendon Goode-Kimble put the Whippets up 20-7 and Downington West never looked back.
Amari Cannon had a great day running the ball, scoring 3 times from 6, 9 and 45. But interceptions and muffed kicks ended any chance Freedom had of coming back. Freedom looks to bounce back next week on the road against EPC rival Parkland and Downingtown West go for 2 in a row traveling St. John’s College H S.
