Wilkes-Barre Improves to 4-0 With Win Defense Keeps Shutout Streak Alive.
DRUMS- Since allowing the Williamsport Wildcats to score 26 first half points in week two of the Great Eastern Football Association season, the Wilkes-Barre Warriors defense have pitched their second consecutive shutout Saturday with a 30-0 win over the Hazleton Mustangs on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon. The win keeps the Warriors unbeaten at 4-0, while the Mustangs drop to 2-2. A pick six by Snyder County in week three prevented a shutout in a 72-6 win.
Travon Perez-Nevins got the Warriors on the board early after the Mustangs took the opening possession and drove inside the five where Perez-Nevins stepped in front of a errant pass and returned it 50 yards for 6-0 lead.

That was just the beginning for Perez-Nevins as he would score again on offense later in the opening quarter as he took a screen pass from Gary Kroll Jr and broke several would-be-tackles en route to a 21 yard score. The two-point conversion made it 14-0 to close out the quarter.

The Warriors would extend the lead to 22-0 as Perez-Nevins would get the hat-trick with a 45 yard pick six just before lightning would delay the game for about 30 minutes right before halftime.

The Mustangs were GEFA’s leading defense coming into this contest, but the Warriors wanted to make a statement that they were not intimidated by this fact and RB Anthony Maurant dashed in for a 21 yard score on a end around to make it 28-0 in the third quarter.

The Warriors would close out the scoring fittingly as the defense were to get a safety late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 30-0. Wilkes-Barre (4-0) will try to go for win number five on the road at winless Somerset County Miners Saturday. The Miners dropped a 86-0 decision to Moshannon Valley Vikings. The Mustangs (2-2) will try to get back over .500 also on the road at Dauphin County Comanche (1-3) coming off a 48-40 loss to the Mifflin County Tomahawks.
