Week Eight Freedom 4-3 host Northampton 3-4 Friday Night
The Patriots are on a three-game winning streak, after starting the season 1-3. The Konkrete Kids have lost four of their last five games after starting the season 2-0. Freedom’s win streak included victories over Allen 51-13, East Stroudsburg South 42-0 and Bethlehem Catholic 28-0. Northampton’s four losses, two of which were by late touchdowns, 41-34 to Liberty and 49-56 to Whitehall, plus a 38-27 loss to Parkland in which they able to score more points than anybody else so far this season against the Trojans. Pleasant Valley managed thirteen and Freedom was only able to muster seven points against Parklands defense. But Freedom’s defense was able to hold Parkland to only eighteen points, which was the Trojan’s lowest point total of the season. And as good as the Patriots defense looked against Parkland they looked equally as bad against Downingtown West giving up forty-four points, then they gave up fifty-six points to Nazareth.
In a way these teams are polar opposites of each other, although Freedom averages just under twenty-eight points per game on offense, that has been their biggest problem so far this season has been putting points on the board against the better teams, seven against Downingtown West and Parkland, where Northampton has been able to do that, averaging thirty-seven points per-game, twenty-eight vs Easton, thirty-four vs Liberty and forty-nine vs Whitehall. Freedom has been getting better and more consistent in part due to the improved play of Michael Stofanak at quarterback, connecting with wide receivers Davyan Moore and Geovanny Ledee, plus Jahaire Hughes and Abraham Pla who have carried the load at running back since Lashawn Jonhson’s injury. But it will be the Patriots defense who have only given up thirteen points to Allen and have two shutouts in their last three games, that will have to come up big for Freedom. Northampton has a couple of good running backs in Zander Rickert and Chase Kessler plus Zeke Spencer is set to return from injury for another threat in the backfield. He could also be a spark on a defense that has given up forty-eight points to Easton, forty-one points to Liberty, fifty-six to Whitehall. Gavin Taff who just became Northampton all time yardage leader in passing, spreads the ball to Cameron Hersch and Jeremiah Strowder adding to Northampton’s arsenal on offense.
There are only two games left in the regular season after Friday night, and it doesn’t get any easier for Freedom as they travel to Cottingham Stadium next Friday and face off against the Easton Red Rovers and end their season at BASD Stadium against crosstown rivals the Liberty Hurricanes. The Patriots need a win this Friday to keep their head above .500 and end the season the same way
And it doesn’t get any easier for Northampton, they host Nazareth Blue Eagles next Friday at Al Erdosy Stadium who can still put a lot of points on the board even with the loss of Peyton Falzone. Next for the Kids they travel back to BASD Stadium, this time to face Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks, who are a little banged up right now with injuries to Carter and Caden Vassa.
The fact that these teams are polar opposites of each other in my opinion, is why I think this is going to be a really good game. Their strengths match up against the other team’s weakness, to me that means a close game going down to wire.
Both Teams Need It! Both Teams Want it! I think it will be 30-28 Northampton
