Both Old Forge and West Scranton had a goal in mind this year: improve off last year’s disaster. What better way to do that, than getting a win on opening night. West Scranton came hungry for a victory (and hopefully some pizza) and they travelled down to Old Forge to start the 10 week journey. New faces on the offense of the Devils had to try to get comfortable, but stalled quite a few times, and West Scranton took advantage. The Invaders went up 7-0 pretty much immediately. Now, to Old Forge’s credit, they tied the game in an epic fashion: a blocked punt.
The second half was a half to forget for Old Forge, however. They let up 13 points, and could not score. They even threw a pick 6 in the redzone, which didn’t help. The final score ended up being 20-7 West Scranton, which is a huge road win considering they play a tough Abington Heights team next week. Old Forge can look at it this way (if this helps) usually the first week is messy. Lots of acclimation and getting used to everything again, especially when you change personnel on the offense. The Invaders play Abington Heights next week, and the Devils look to bounce back against Dunmore (who lost this week) both of which will have home games.
