Whitehall Takes Back The Cement Bowl Trophy
Whitehall came to Al Erdosy Stadium last night to get back what they lost last year and that was the Cement Bowl Trophy. And even though they fell behind by 28 points early in the second quarter to Northampton who scored on their first four drives, they then put 21 points of their own on the board before the end of the first half. That included two touchdowns in the last 29.1 seconds, the last one set up by a muffed kick and the half ended 28-21. The second half started the same way the first half ended and that was with a quick score only 23 seconds into the second half and that tied the at 28-28. Although Whitehall could match Northampton’s scores, they did not lead till 5:21 in the fourth quarter 49-42 and that was short lived because Northampton came right back and tied it at 49-49. This set up the game winning drive, that ended with a Tanner Dogmanits to Talon Dogmanits 25yard pass and catch for a touchdown with only 13.5 seconds left in the game and that made it 56-49 which would be the final score. And The Cement Bowl Trophy goes back across the Lehigh River after this classic battle that went right down to the wire after 105 points on 15 touchdowns.
Whitehall won the toss and deferred to Northampton. The Zephyrs Cole Richards kicked the ball into the end zone for a touchback and Northampton started on their own 20yard line. And Northampton went right to their ground game with Zander Rickert who ran for 8yards on first down and 29 on second down. Then with the ball on Whitehall’s 43yard line Gavin Taff connected with Cameron Hersch for 18yards to the 25yard line. Chase Kessler ran for 6yards on first and ten and came right back and ran for 17 more yards to the 2 where Keegan Hackett ran in for the touchdown at 10:30 in the first quarter and after extra point Northampton led 7-0

Jackson Sandt kicked off for Northampton and Talon Dogmanits mishandled the kick and the ball rolled to the 1yard line where he picked it up and ran it back to the Northampton 49. Whitehall was not able to get a first down on fourth and four and turned the ball over on downs to Northampton at the 43yard line. on first and ten Chase Kessler ran for 24yards to the Whitehall 33yard line. On first down Zander Rickert lost 5yards but an encroachment penalty gave it right back. then on second and ten from the 33yard line Gavin Taff found Cameron Hersch again this time for a touchdown and Northampton led 14-0 at 7:53 in the first.

On second and nine from the 49yard line Tanner Dogmanits ran for 11yards to the Northampton 40yard line, but the drive stalled a few plays later and Cole Richards punts for Whitehall and the ball went into the endzone for a touchback. But on first and ten Tanner Dogmanit’s pass was intercepted by Dom Barkanick and he returned the ball to the 26yard line. Northampton was not able to get a first down and capitalize on Whitehall’s turnover and was forced to punt the ball. Whitehall started on their own 19yard line. Jeziah Gregory lost 4yards on first down, but then Tanner Dogmanits connected first with his brother Talon for 8yards and James Hopkins for 6yards for a first down at their 29yard line. After an incomplete pass to Bryce Medina, Tanner Dogmanits ran for 27yards to the 44yard line for a first down and ran for 9more yards on second and five to the 40yard line. Next Tanner passed 29yards to Talon Dogmanits down to the 11 yard line. Cole Richards kicked off to the 1yard line and Dom Barkanic returned it to the 21yard line where Northampton started first and ten. An 11yard pass to Noah Kline kept the drive alive on third and four. But that was short lived and Northampton was forced to punt. Whitehall started with great field position after a Talon Dogmanits return at Northampton’s 21yard line. Three plays later Tanner Dogmanits ran it from the 5yard line for a touchdown with 29.1 seconds left in the half and cut Northampton’s lead in half 28-14.

Cole Richards kicked off to Northampton but they mishandled the kick and Whitehall recovers on Northampton’s 39yard line and two plays later second and ten Tanner Dogmanits passed to Bryce Medina with 12.6 seconds left in the half and after the extra point the Zephyrs only trailed by seven points 28-21. Which was the score at the half and with Whitehall getting the ball to start the second half they were looking to complete there comeback.
Northampton kicked off to Whitehall to start the second half and after a great return by Talon Dogmanits to Northampton’s 21yard line, on first and ten Jeziah Gregory ran 21yards for the touchdown and the score was all tied up at 28-28 after the extra point at 11:37 in the 3rd quarter. So if you count the two touchdowns right before the half and this last score, Whitehall scored 3 touchdowns in less than a minute.

Whitehall with 2:05 left to win it or go to overtime and they get a good return and start on their on 38yard line and on first down Tanner connected again with his brother Talon and goes all the way to Northampton’s 30yard line. On third and 9 Tanner goes back Talon again but this one falls incomplete but a unsportsmanlike penalty and Whitehall has a first down at the 14yard line and Gregory ran for 2yards to the twelve. A holding penalty backed Whitehall up to the 25yard line, but for the second time in the fourth quarter the Dogmanit’s brothers connected for a touchdown with 13.5 seconds left in the game and after the extra point Whitehall led 56-49 and that was the final score.
