On the opening drive, Crestwood was moving well on Wilkes-Barre Area’s defense. An interception by Gene Ardo on the opening drive built the momentum for the Wolf Pack as Davon Underwood scored on the first play from scrimmage and Jake Howe threw for two touchdowns and also added a rushing touchdown as Wilkes-Barre Area took a 35-7 victory over the Comets. “It’s tough to emulate what they do, we bent but didn’t break and Gene made a nice play on the ball.” Said Wolf Pack head coach Ciro Cinti.
Crestwood started with the ball and moved into Wilkes-Barre Area territory. However, Jaden Shedlock’s pass was intercepted by Gene Ardo and returned to the Comet 28 yard line. On the first play, Underwood scored from 28 yards out to make it 7-0 Wolf Pack with 10:46 remaining in the first quarter.
Crestwood got the ball and moved down the field to the Wilkes-Barre Area 8 but failed to score as they missed a field goal. The Wolf Pack then went on a seven play drive ending with Jake Howe finding Jonathan Otway-Kellogg for a 26 yard score to make it 14-0 with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter.
After a Comet three and out, it looked like the Crestwood forced a three and out of their own but Wilkes-Barre Area went for it on a fourth and 5 and an offsides penalty kept the drive going. Jake Howe finished the drive with a one yard touchdown run to make it 21-0 with 8:03 remaining in the second quarter and that was the score at halftime.
Wilkes-Barre Area cruised through the second half. Jake Howe went to Nick Saracino for a six yard score to make it 28-0 with 9:48 remaining in the third quarter. Davon Underwood scored from 21 yards out to make it 35-0 with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter to invoke the mercy rule. Crestwood got on the board as Matt Bealla scored from 67 yards out to make it 35-7 with 43 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Both teams did not score in the fourth quarter as Wilkes-Barre Area defeated Crestwood 35-7 to go 6-3 on the season and will play host to Williamsport next week. The Comets fall to 4-5 as they travel to Valley West in Week 10.
