Both teams entered tonight’s game on winning streaks. The Wolf Pack came in as winners of three straight after an 0-2 start and Crestwood won two straight after starting off 0-3. Wilkes-Barre Area got a big night out of Sophomore Treyvon Gembitski and senior Evan Laybourne-Boddie as the Wolf Pack increased their winning streak to four with a 34-14 victory against Crestwood in Mountain Top. “We’ve just been playing four quarters the last four weeks. We’ve played better defense and when you play for four quarters, good things happen.” Wilkes-Barre Area Head Coach Ciro Cinti said.

Wilkes-Barre Area started with the ball and got a big play as Jake Howe found Davon Underwood on a screen pass and went 36 yards into Crestwood territory to the 32 yard line. The Wolf Pack drove all the way to the one yard line where Jake Howe scored from one yard out and a 6-0 lead with 8:01 to go in the first quarter.

The Comets looked to answer on their first possession. They drove down the field and got into Wilkes-Barre territory and got to the 20 yard line as Jaden Shedlock found Colin Lazo for a 28 yard completion. Crestwood faced a fourth and 2 but an offsides penalty on the Wolf Pack gave the Comets a first and goal. They capitalized as Shedlock scored from six yards to give Crestwood a 7-6 lead with 4:26 remaining in the first quarter.

Wilkes-Barre Area got the ball back and got chunk plays as Jake Howe found Gembitsky and Evan Laybourne-Boddie on consecutive plays as they got a first and goal. The drive ended with Howe finding Layborne-Boddie in the back of the end zone. The Comets went on a drive that took almost half of the second quarter to complete as Shedlock found Matt Sklarosky for a 38 yard touchdown to tie the game up at 14 with 6:52 to go in the first half.
