Both teams, hungry for this one. William Tennant, a District 1 squad sitting at 0-4. And J.P McCaskey, a District 3 squad being 0-4 as well. Watching both teams on film, their formulas are quite simple. Establishing dominance on the ground was key, but who could execute better? That’d be the William Tennant Panthers, potentially revitalizing their season with a 22-6 win over the Red Tornado.

Kicking things off, J.P McCaskey was tasked to be the first to cross the pylon, but the Panthers were not willing to lay down. As McCaskey seemed to be driving, they found themselves in a 4th and short when QB Qua’May Pettway was wrapped up shy of the line to gain.

This next drive from William Tennant certainly foreshadowed the remainder of this one. Panthers Junior QB Gavin Mensch carried his squad on his back in this drive with two tough 3rd down conversions and a touchdown pass to Senior Chase Lubrant to open up the second quarter, making it a 8-0 ball game after a successful 2 point conversion.

Minutes later after a J.P McCaskey punt, William Tennant was threatening for the endzone once more. With about 7 minutes remaining, this time it was Senior Jordan Lawson for the Panthers finding a crease and pouncing out of Red Tornado tacklers reach to extend their lead to 15-0. Another J.P McCaskey punt gave the Panthers more opportunity to score but they could not capitalize. Panthers turnover on downs, McCaskey RB, Gean Vargas fumbles recovered by Aidan Garvin; the sequence to end the half with no points.

William Tennant had their eyes on 7 points out of half, driving at ease primarily on the ground. Just like that, they could not convert another 4th down on a Gavin Mensch run. With the score being only 15-0, a lot of ball was left to be played and time of possession is key for the Tornadoes especially playing catch-up. Except, that was cut short after a Qua’May Pettway interception.

McCaskey forced a fumble a few plays later but couldn’t capitalize with points after a 4th and 17 Panthers sack from Sophomore Teegan Stanfield. Following the sack, William Tennant was forced to punt the same series and finally, momentum started to shift. McCaskey ended up blocking the Panthers punt but QB Qua’May Pettway got injured and it did not look good.

Then in the wildcat, Armani Rivera fell forward for a Tornado score, despite still being a two possession game after a failed 2-pt conversion, now 15-6 on the board. The Panthers were forced to punt again and the Tornadoes blocked it again! Now, McCaskey in great field position, primed to cut this game to one possession.

Until the Panthers came up clutch with a crucial, potential game-winning interception caught by Aidan Garvin. With 3 minutes remaining with the score still being 15-6, multiple first downs sealed a Panthers win, but Panthers Senior Jordan Lawson wanted more and house-called an inside zone to close this one out.

William Tennant improves to a much needed 1-4 record, now looking to face a tough, undefeated Wissahickon Trojans opponent on the road on Friday(9/26) at 7:00PM. J.P McCaskey, still without a win and now 0-5 are squaring off with a long-time rival Manheim Township, who is 4-1 and wanting to claim the top spot in the Lancaster-Lebanon Conference. This one for McCaskey on the road again on Friday(9/26) at 7:00PM as well.
