At lunch time, Williamsport head coach Mike Pearson came outside and was pleased with the weather. The wind was howling, which continued on to kickoff at Wilkes-Barre Area. “I’m texting my coaches saying the wind’s coming from the northwest to the southeast, their field runs from north to south.” Pearson said. The wind was a factor in both teams passing games. The Millionaires forced four turnovers including an interception for a touchdown as Williamsport won the District 2/4 Subregional with a 14-0 victory over Wilkes-Barre Area. Pearson talked about what it means to win the Subregional title. “It means everything. You don’t get too many opportunities like this. To come out of here and I’m still processing that this game is over. The clock is really turned off and these boys will be champions forever.”

The game was scoreless for almost 10 minutes of the first quarter when both teams traded fumbles and the Millionaires capitalized on their fumble as Samir Williams scored from 27 yards out on a reverse to make it 7-0 Millionaires with 1:42 remaining in the first quarter. Wilkes-Barre Area looked like they were about to score but an interception by Kyreek Bradshaw ended the drive and we went to halftime at 7-0.

The Wolf Pack looked to tie the game, as a 22 yard run by Davon Underwood got Wilkes-Barre Area into Williamsport territory. However, the drive ended when Kyreek Bradshaw got his second interception of the night. Late in the third quarter, on a fourth and 1, the Millionaire defense was able to stop the run play to end another Wolf Pack drive. Early in the fourth quarter, Williamsport’s Samir Williams returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0. On the next drive, on a fourth and 9 at the Millionaire 15 yard line, it looked like Williamsport had a sack but a defensive hold gave Wilkes-Barre Area a first and goal at the 10 yard line. The Wolf Pack faced a fourth and goal at the seven yard and the pass fell incomplete. The Millionaires ran out the clock to win the District 2/4 Subregional Championship and advance to the State Playoffs with a 14-0 victory on the road at Wilkes-Barre Area. It was Williamsport’s first Subregional title in eight years.
