Wilson starts their season out 2-0, after beating Cheltenham last week and taking care of Plymouth Whitemarsh Friday night in such fashion. The Bulldogs took things from the opening kickoff with the final score being 27-7.

A big help tonight to Wilson’s victory was their defense and Quarterback Mason Young. Wilson shut down the Colonials offense. Plymouth did not score until early in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs pitched a shutout until then.

“I mean the first half, it was a little slow. We came out after the half and our offensive line was playing really great. Our defense was playing great, getting stops. Correll was doing a great job on the ground, the ground game was working a lot. Our receivers were just playing great, so at the end of the day it’s all them” said Young postgame, very humbly talking about everyone but himself.

The scoring kicked off in the second quarter with Mason Young dishing it to Jaiden Carpenter for six. This would be the first of two touchdowns thrown by Young.

On the very next possession, the Bulldogs would add another touchdown onto the board. This time from a turnover, Plymouth Whitemarsh QB Cole Reilly throws an interception return touchdown to Wilson LB EJ Brownback. Wilson quickly went up two touchdowns, and that concluded all scoring from the first half.

Moving into the second half, things did not get much easier for Plymouth Whitemarsh. Wilson took advantage of their opening half drive. Tight End Michael Glover found himself shaking off a couple of tackles and getting himself in the endzone.

Wilson still shut out the Colonials midway through the third quarter which showed how elite their defense played Friday night. Head Coach Doug Dahms emphasized on the defensive play.

“I think we played pretty well, we started making plays and limiting them to 2-3 yards per carry, you know that’s what you want your defense to do. Secondary wise, obviously they are a run team, so we did a pretty good job covering the pass whenever they came out with it. We got a lot of pressure from our defensive ends and played pretty solid football”.

Nearing the end of the third quarter, after the Wilson defense shutdown Plymouth Whitemarsh once again, running back Correll Akings got the ball around the 45 and off to the races he went, adding to Wilson’s lead, 27-0.

At this point in the game Wilson had been laying the boom on the Colonials and there was only so much QB Cole Reilly and the Plymouth offense could do. They wouldn’t stop fighting as in the beginning of the fourth quarter their first points of the game would finally be scored. Tight End Michael Giangiulio rushed one in for six. 27-7.

That ultimately wrapped up the game and Wilson took this one home rather easily. Wilson will host Nazareth next week on Friday (9/5). The Bulldogs look to stay undefeated next week just as they did against a tough Colonials squad.
