KINGSTON- The Wyoming Area Warriors punched their ticket to Hershey Friday night at Spartan Stadium with a dominant defensive performance that forced five interceptions in a 21-0 victory over District XI champion Tamaqua in the PIAA 3A state semifinal contest. The win secures the schools’ first state championship opportunity against District 7 champion Central Valley on Saturday, December 7th at noon. come into the game with 13-1 records. Central Valley demolished Bald Eagle Area 45-0 Friday night.

The Warriors got on the scoreboard on their opening drive. A five yard score by quarterback Dominic DeLuca capped off an 8 play 82 yard drive with 4:54 left in the opening quarter. The key play was a 41 yard pass from DeLuca to wide receiver Brian Williams to the Tamaqua 8.

Wyoming Area took a 14-0 lead into locker room with a 27 yard pass from DeLuca to Brian Williams at the 8:24 mark. Running back Darren Rodney carried the ball five times on the drive.

Tamaqua had a chance to get on the board late in the half, but a Brayden Knoblauch pass was picked off in the end zone by Jake Williams, who had three interceptions in the game, ended the threat.

Rodney, who rushed for 133 yards on 23 carries found the end zone on a one yard score with 6:21 left in the third quarter extending the lead to 21-0.

“This is just incredible, historic for our program to play in a state championship.” Wyoming Area coach Randy Spencer stated. “We’ve been talking all yae with this group about just playing one more time together.” He concluded.

Tamaqua had a would-be touchdown ruled incomplete that would have cut the lead to 21-7 as Knoblach connected with Cody Hamm from 14 yards out near the end of the third quarter.

Williams thwarted another Tamaqua drive with about 1:30 left in the contest, that allowed Wyoming Area to run out the clock and preserve the shutout.
